Gwyneth Paltrow Slams Biography Author as ‘Hack’ in Controversy

Gwyneth Paltrow has publicly criticized the recent book Gwyneth: The Biography by Amy Odell, which was published over the summer without her involvement. The 53-year-old actress dismissed the author as a “hack” who failed to capture the truth about her life and influence, fueling ongoing debate surrounding the Gwyneth Paltrow biography controversy.

Speaking to British Vogue, Paltrow revealed that although she did not read the book herself, her husband Brad Falchuk did, and his reaction was equally negative. She quoted him saying,

“It’s just bad. It’s really badly written.”

She also dismissed many of the claims featured in other media outlets as “all rubbish,” particularly the supposed quotes attributed to her.

Paltrow Condemns Sexism and Questionable Comparisons

The actress expressed frustration over what she perceives as a sexist double standard in the treatment of public figures. She questioned why male celebrities receive detailed, serious biographies—citing Walter Isaacson as an example—while she was reportedly targeted with a poorly executed account.

“It’s very sexist. I was like, ‘Ok, hang on a sec. Why do the men get Walter Isaacson and I get this hack?’ You know?”

she said.

Disputing Claims of a Toxic Work Environment at Goop

One particularly contentious aspect of the biography relates to anonymous allegations about Paltrow’s leadership at her lifestyle company Goop, suggesting it fostered internal chaos and a toxic culture. Paltrow vehemently denied these accusations, calling them infuriating and untrue.

“Oh, Goop has a toxic culture. That drives me insane because we have never had that,”

she stated.

While acknowledging there have been a few difficult individuals and that her reluctance to confront problems might have allowed issues to persist, Paltrow took full responsibility for any negative consequences. She emphasized the positive work environment she has worked hard to create, saying,

“We are such a good culture. We are. It’s something that I am so proud of and worked so hard on.”

She further insisted that while conflicts occasionally arise, as they do anywhere,” the overall atmosphere at Goop’s Santa Monica office is collaborative and energetic.

“If I dropped you into the Goop office in Santa Monica, you’d be like: ‘What the f–k are these people talking about?’ You would see really engaged, really brilliant, highly collaborative teams who are excited,”

she explained.

“So I don’t like that kind of stuff – it impacts the team.”

Controversial Revelations Highlighted in the Biography

The biography stirred headlines with its revelations about Paltrow’s personal relationships and celebrity friendships, contributing to the ongoing controversy. Among the topics covered were a rumored feud with Winona Ryder and explanations for their fallout, the end of Paltrow’s relationships with Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck including discussions about her sex life and alleged infidelity involving John Hannah, and tensions surrounding her friendship with Madonna involving Chris Martin and Lourdes Leon.
