James Norton has been cast as Brian Epstein in the upcoming Sam Mendes Beatles Biopic, a four-film series that will chronicle the rise and breakup of the legendary band. The project, directed by Oscar winner Sam Mendes, aims to tell the Beatles’ story from the perspective of each member, highlighting their individual journeys and collective impact on music history.
All-Star Cast Brings Beatles to Life
Norton joins a distinguished cast including Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. Alongside these lead roles, Saoirse Ronan has been cast as Linda McCartney, Anna Sawai will play Yoko Ono, and Mia McKenna-Bruce is set to portray Maureen Starkey, Ringo Starr’s first wife. Aimee Lou Wood is currently in talks to take on the role of Pattie Boyd, George Harrison’s wife.
Brian Epstein’s Role in the Beatles’ Story
As Brian Epstein, Norton will depict the influential manager often called the “fifth Beatle.” Epstein discovered the Beatles in 1961 at Liverpool’s Cavern Club and was crucial in transforming them from local performers into global icons. His business savvy and personal dedication helped shape the band’s image and success until his death in 1967 at the age of 32. Due to Epstein’s significant influence, his character is expected to appear throughout all four films, connecting the band’s narrative threads.
Release and Future Prospects
The Sam Mendes Beatles Biopic, described as “A Four-Film Cinematic Event,” is scheduled for release worldwide in April 2028. This ambitious project promises to offer a fresh, multi-faceted look at the Beatles’ legacy, exploring their individual stories while capturing the cultural impact of their music and breakup.
