Jetsons Live-Action Reboot in Works with Jim Carrey Talks

Warner Bros is developing a Jetsons live-action reboot, with notable actor Jim Carrey reportedly in discussions to star. This revival of the iconic 1960s animated show is set to bring the futuristic family of Orbit City back to the big screen.

Details of the New Jetsons Film

The upcoming film adaptation will be written by Colin Trevorrow, known for Jurassic World, alongside Joe Epstein. Trevorrow is also expected to direct the project. This reboot follows previous iterations, including the original animated series from 1962 to 1963, a 1980s revival, and a 1990 animated movie.

The Jetsons traditionally centers on the family’s life in a space-age world, led by George Jetson, his wife Jane, their children Judy and Elroy, and their robot housekeeper Rosie. The show offered a futuristic counterpart to The Flintstones, depicting a high-tech lifestyle with humor and charm.

Jim Carrey’s Potential Involvement

Jim Carrey, who recently appeared in 2024’s Sonic The Hedgehog 3, is in talks to star in this new version. His involvement is notable, considering Carrey had hinted at stepping back from acting as of 2022. At that time, during the promotion of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Carrey suggested he might retire but left the door open for special projects, stating:

“If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road.” – Jim Carrey

Carrey is not expected to reprise his role as Dr. Robotnik in the upcoming Sonic film, where his character appeared to die. The writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller commented on Robotnik’s fate saying he is “completely dead… maybe,” and joked about the possibility of future returns in the series.

“We hope that they make a zillion of these, and who knows, by Sonic the Hedgehog 8… like with the Fast & Furious franchise, that’s demonstrated that nobody really needs to stay dead if you don’t want to,” – Josh Miller

Pat Casey added:

“I would say, ‘Of course he’s dead, it was a space explosion, he’s completely dead… unless, maybe…’ That all depends on Jim, I think.” – Pat Casey

The writers also praised Carrey’s comedic talents as a rare quality, stating:

“It’s a very short list of actors who could have pulled this off, possibly there’s only one name on it. Like, comedy is hard.” – Pat Casey

Legacy and What’s Next for the Jetsons

The Jetsons live-action reboot represents the latest attempt to bring the cherished animated family into modern cinema. With Trevorrow and Epstein crafting the script, and Carrey potentially leading the cast, this project aims to tap into both nostalgia and contemporary appeal. The original show’s vision of futuristic living continues to resonate, and this new adaptation may introduce The Jetsons to a whole new generation.

Fans of both the classic series and Jim Carrey’s work will be watching closely as development progresses, eager to see how this space-age family is reimagined for today’s audience. Warner Bros has yet to announce a release date, but the involvement of high-profile creators and stars hints at a significant upcoming entertainment event.
