Glen Powell, known for his dynamic roles, faced intense challenges while filming The Running Man remake, a project that demanded physical and mental endurance. The actor spoke about some unexpected and frightening moments during production at New York Comic Con, emphasizing how the experience pushed him to his limits.
Unexpected Dangers During Filming
Powell described several incidents on set where stunts went awry, resulting in startling situations.
“There were a few explosions that hit me in the face,”
he said, highlighting the risks involved in action sequences. Additionally, he recalled a sudden mishap involving safety equipment, stating,
“And a fire extinguisher that exploded before it was supposed to – that definitely took me by surprise.”
These events demonstrate the unpredictable nature of shooting high-intensity scenes.
Near-Fatal Cable Drop Caught on Camera
One stunt especially tested the actor’s composure: a fall down the side of a building. Powell revealed that his genuine shock during this sequence was captured in the final cut.
“They let a cable loose a little before I thought it was going to be let loose,”
he explained.
“If you fall even just a couple of feet down the side of a building when you’re not expecting it, it’s a little nerve-racking.”
This moment shows how real physical danger added authenticity to his performance.
Thriving Amid On-Set Chaos
Despite these harrowing experiences, Powell shared that he embraces unexpected challenges on set.
“I always try to keep myself surprised because that’s all the good stuff,”
he said. He believes unpredictability enhances his work, noting,
“You never want to be too surefooted on a set.”
His perspective underlines the importance of spontaneity in action filmmaking.
The Running Man: An Exciting Reimagining
The film, directed by Edgar Wright and co-written with Michael Bacall, offers a fresh take on Stephen King’s dystopian narrative about contestants hunted for entertainment. Glen Powell steps into the role of Ben Richards, originally played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 adaptation. Alongside Powell, the cast includes Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, Lee Pace, William H. Macy, Emilia Jones, Michael Cera, and Jayme Lawson.
The Running Man combines thrilling action and suspense, and its release is scheduled for November 14 in theatres. Wright and Bacall bring their collaborative energy to this project, building on past success with Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), promising a gripping experience for audiences.
