Jennifer Lawrence is set to reappear on cinema screens this year in the psychological thriller Die My Love, directed by Lynne Ramsay. Reflecting on a Possible Retirement After Career Setbacks
At 35, after years of intense work in franchises and award-driven movies, Lawrence revealed in an interview on The Graham Norton Show that she had seriously contemplated leaving acting. Following the conclusion of The Hunger Games series and earning her fourth Oscar nomination for Joy, her subsequent films struggled commercially, prompting her to take a two-year hiatus.
Lawrence explained that after starring in the 2019 X-Men installment Dark Phoenix, and later in the 2021 release Don’t Look Up, she needed a break from the relentless pace.
“I took a little time, I was working all of my twenties, and then I was like… what’s out here? What’s going on?”
she shared.
She admitted being at peace with the idea of stepping away from Hollywood entirely, though the uncertainty was unsettling.
“I was at peace with that possibility of that happening,”
Lawrence said. Discussing the pressures of the industry, she added,
“[Hollywood] is a lot… I think I would have been [okay], but also I would’ve been really upset. I don’t know.”
