Among the many unforgettable characters who have died on Stranger Things, Eddie Munson remains Gaten Matarazzo’s favorite. On a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Matarazzo made it clear that if he could choose any character to return, it would be Eddie, played by Joseph Quinn. The actor’s attachment to Munson illustrates his hope to see the fan-loved character brought back in the series despite official announcements.
Jimmy Fallon Highlights Eddie Munson’s Absence from Season 5
During the interview, Fallon mentioned that the showrunners had confirmed Eddie Munson would not come back in the upcoming season. He posed a playful challenge to Matarazzo, asking him which character from the Upside-Down he wished to bring back. When presented with options including Billy, played by Dacre Montgomery, Matarazzo immediately chose Eddie.
“The Duffer Brothers, who are geniuses, they confirmed that Eddie Munson will not be returning this season,”
Fallon remarked.
“Also, Billy, like, assaulted my friends. People forget that. I’m just saying. Even before [the possession]. Season 2. He wasn’t the best,”
Matarazzo added defensively, before praising Munson by saying, This dude rocks.
Animal Companions from the Series Spark Difficult Choices
The interview also included a lighthearted bracket game where Matarazzo faced a tough decision between two pets associated with his character Dustin Henderson: Mews the Cat and Dart the Demodog. Matarazzo admitted he found this choice quite challenging.
“This one is the first one that I find to be quite hard,”
he said, before choosing Mews the Cat due to his personal experience as a cat owner.
Final Choices Focus on Season 4 Mentorship and Beloved Characters
The last round of the game’s bracket featured Mews, Eddie Munson, Chrissy Cunningham (played by Grace Van Dien), and Barb Holland (portrayed by Shannon Purser). Matarazzo chose his Season 4 mentor, Eddie Munson, as the character he would save if given the chance.
Showrunners Confirm Joseph Quinn Will Not Return for Season 5
Matt Duffer, co-showrunner of Stranger Things, confirmed in an interview with Empire Magazine that Joseph Quinn will not return to the series for its fifth season. Citing Quinn’s busy schedule, Duffer expressed doubt about the actor’s availability.
“Joe is so busy anyway, that everyone should know he’s not coming back,”
said Matt Duffer.
“He’s shot like five movies since! When the hell has he got time to come and shoot ‘Stranger Things?’”
