Jeremy Renner Hints at Hawkeye Season 2 and Avengers Doomsday

Jeremy Renner has addressed ongoing speculation about a possible second season of Marvel Studios’ ‘Hawkeye,’ confirming that future installments could take inspiration from the action film ‘The Raid.’ Set to feature a conflict involving Clint Barton, Kate Bishop, and Barney Barton—also known as Trickshot—the show has generated buzz, though Renner’s involvement remains uncertain amid contract negotiations. Fans await clarity on how this might affect the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and upcoming films like ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’

Contract Disputes Cloud Renner’s Role in Hawkeye Season 2

Reports reveal that Renner declined Marvel’s offer to return for ‘Hawkeye’ Season 2 after being offered only half of his first season’s salary, despite the demanding nine-month shooting schedule. Additionally, Marvel Studios appears to be shifting its strategy on streaming shows, favoring less focus on established big-screen stars to maintain a clearer distinction between theatrical releases and home-viewing content. This development raises questions about Renner’s future as Clint Barton in the MCU.

Possible Absence from ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Despite Set Visit

Although Jeremy Renner has not been officially announced as part of the cast for ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ the actor indicated he had recently visited the movie’s set in London. Speaking with Cinema Blend, Renner reflected on reconnecting with his longtime Marvel co-stars during his book tour.

Yeah, well, [they] are very, very dear friends of mine. I got to catch up with them, actually, when I was on the book tour when they were filming in London,

Renner said.

I got to break bread with all of the boys on that show. It was good to see everybody and we have a forever bond. Whether we’re filming or not, we’re always connected.

Renner Open to Hawkeye Season 2, but Decision Remains Uncertain

In an interview with Screen Rant, Renner emphasized that he remains open to returning for a second ‘Hawkeye’ season and hinted that it would likely revisit the Christmas setting, which was central to the first season’s atmosphere. Still, he noted that the decision is beyond his control.

For a second season, that was always the idea to continue that narrative, even in the Christmas framework of it all, too, because they love that world in New York. There’s really no more beautiful place than New York until Christmas. After Christmas is kind of bleak.

He added,

it’s really not my decision to make.

Implications for the Marvel Universe and Future Projects

Should the producers and Renner reach an agreement, ‘Hawkeye’ Season 2 could bring closure or further development to Clint Barton’s story while solidifying Kate Bishop’s role within the MCU. The first season effectively passed the torch to Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate, allowing her character to potentially drive future storylines independently.

Renner’s potential absence from ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ may be notable for fans, but it would not be unprecedented; Clint Barton was missing from ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘ before returning as a lead in ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, followed by ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ on December 17, 2027, promising more developments for the MCU’s next phase.
