Laurence Fishburne recently expressed his enthusiasm for playing Professor X in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sharing why he believes he would be an ideal choice for the character. His longtime admiration for Marvel comics and movies fuels his interest in the role.
Fishburne’s Passion for Marvel and the MCU
In an interview with ComicBook, Fishburne detailed how his appreciation for Marvel began early in life, rooted in his childhood love of comic books and the ongoing success of Marvel films. He explained his connection to the universe extends beyond just fandom to a personal resonance with the stories and characters.
I am a true believer in terms of the Marvel space,
Fishburne shared.
Whether it’s Marvel comic books or the MCU. I was reading comic books at the age of six in New York City, and those writers and those artists were talking about things that were happening in the city that I was growing up in. So, of course, there are many characters in the Marvel Universe that I related to that I wished I could have played when I was younger. But I’m very, very pleased with the way that the movies have been cast. I’m very, very pleased with the way that they have played out. I’m a huge fan of all of those movies.

Why Fishburne Believes He Fits Professor X’s Role
Beyond his love for Marvel, Fishburne also indicated that his current age corresponds well with the demands of the Professor X character. He noted that his acting history includes roles similar in tone to the iconic leader of the X-Men, and this alignment strengthens his case for the part.
He remarked,
Professor X, at the moment, is, I feel, the most appropriate character for me to play at the age that I am at this point. And for the kind of roles that I am known for. It feels like it would be fit for me. So that’s why.
Competition and Interest from Other Actors
Fishburne’s excitement is part of a growing trend where established actors express interest in joining X-Men-related projects within the MCU. Bryan Cranston has revealed ambitions to portray the villain Mister Sinister, while Giancarlo Esposito has also voiced his desire to take on the role of Professor X in upcoming films.
The actor’s comments first appeared in a report by Anthony Nash at SuperHeroHype, highlighting the increasing curiosity and anticipation surrounding the integration of X-Men characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Potential Impact on the MCU’s Future
Laurence Fishburne’s eagerness to join the MCU as Professor X adds to the dynamic conversation about how the beloved mutant leader might be introduced in future installments. His strong ties to Marvel’s legacy and thoughtful consideration of his fit for the role suggest he could bring depth and experience to the character’s portrayal.
As the MCU continues to expand, discussions like Fishburne’s reveal both the excitement and high expectations surrounding the casting choices that will shape the next chapters of this evolving franchise.
