Lily Allen has released her new album, West End Girl, featuring candid lyrics about her recent breakup with David Harbour. Since their split in February, the actor has remained mostly private but spoke in an interview about how he is coping with this period of change.
David Harbour Reflects on Navigating Change Post-Breakup
In an April interview with British GQ, David Harbour addressed the transformations occurring in his life. He described experiencing “a tremendous amount of change,” acknowledging that when facing such shifts, there are different ways to respond. Harbour explained the contrast between denying or fearing change and instead accepting the discomfort it brings.
“There’s a lot of change, a tremendous amount of change,”
he said.
“And I think in that world, you have two paths. You can deny this change, be afraid of this change, you can kind of be chaotic about it and, like, eat your way through – whatever you need to do. Or you can sit with however uncomfortable, or weird, or new, it makes you feel.”
Lily Allen Opens Up on the Emotional Toll of Their Split
After four years of marriage, Lily Allen and David Harbour parted ways in February. Allen has since spoken publicly about the difficult aftermath, sharing the mental health struggles she faced during this challenging time. She revealed that feelings of despair became overwhelming, and unlike her previous coping methods involving substances, this time she confronted these emotions head-on.
“The feelings of despair that I was experiencing were so strong,”
Allen disclosed in an interview with British Vogue.
“The last time that I felt anything like that, drugs and alcohol were my way out, so it was excruciating to sit with those [feelings] and not to use them.”
David Harbour Channels His Energy into Career Growth
Following the breakup rumors, Harbour was reportedly seen with model Ellie Beers Fallon. Despite this, Harbour emphasized to British GQ that he has been focusing on his personal development by dedicating himself to his work. He shared that his experiences, painful or positive, are transformed into creative output that can resonate with others.

“For me, always the best thing that I can do is take all of that experience and pour it into work, because my experience, no matter how awful or great, will always be useful to someone else if it’s channeled through art. I can always be of use. And so that’s what I’m doing.”
He further expressed his mindset regarding the end of their relationship, focusing on growth rather than hardship.
“It’s not that things ending aren’t hard, but it’s just that I’m choosing to make it a period of growth. And I feel like having the opportunity to be busy and work is really good. I’m learning how to swim in this, whatever it is. Learning how to float. Learning how to make it not about me.”
Privacy Maintained Following Album Release
Since the launch of Allen’s album, Harbour has deactivated comments on his Instagram account, signaling a desire for privacy during this sensitive chapter. His response reflects a deliberate effort to process the breakup with composure and channel emotions into professional pursuits.
This period marks a significant transitional phase for both individuals, highlighting the complex emotions that follow public separations. Harbour’s focus on artistic growth and Allen’s candid emotional revelations reveal different coping strategies as they each move forward.
