Isla Fisher Shocked by Nicole Kidman Divorce, Offers Support

Actress Isla Fisher expressed surprise upon hearing that her friend, Nicole Kidman, was divorcing her husband, Keith Urban. Fisher opened up about her reaction on the Fly on the Wall podcast with Dana Carvey and David Spade, where she also reflected on her own recent divorce from Sacha Baron Cohen. Fisher and Cohen, who were married for 13 years after meeting in 2001 and tying the knot in 2010, finalized their separation in June 2024 and share three children.

Discussing her personal journey, Fisher mentioned,

“I’ve been married for 23 years. I only just got… separated, divorced.”

Friendship and Shared Experiences Between Fisher and Kidman

On the podcast, when asked if having Nicole Kidman as a friend during such a difficult time provided support, Fisher admitted, “I’m really, really, really shocked,” indicating how unforeseen the news of Kidman and Urban’s divorce was to her. She also revealed,

“I have left a message, I have not connected yet, but I don’t really wanna comment on that because there are children involved.”

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban share two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. Additionally, Kidman has adult children Bella and Connor with her former husband Tom Cruise.

Considering their parallel experiences, Fisher might find a source of comfort in Kidman, who has shown a willingness to support others by sharing wisdom gained from her own challenges. Kidman recently emphasized this desire in an interview with Bazaar magazine, reflecting on the importance of imparting lessons learned from life hardships.

Nicole Kidman’s Perspective on Overcoming Life’s Difficulties

Nicole Kidman discussed the valuable insights she has gathered over time, expressing a wish to assist others by sharing her experiences. She said,

“As I get older, I want to be able to share and impart the things I’ve learned. I’ve seen a lot, I’ve experienced a lot, and I’ve survived a lot. I want to pass on some of that knowledge and that wisdom and whatever I’ve learned.”

She clarified her approach to guidance, stating,

“I’m not big on telling people what to do, but I’m more than happy to share. Then, people can take tidbits, because we all know you tell somebody to do something, and they’re going to do what they want to do anyway. That’s true, right? So it’s more about sharing your own experiences, saying this is what I’ve learned, take from it what you will.”

Facing Emotional Challenges with Resilience and Patience

Reflecting further on the emotional impact of painful life events, Kidman acknowledged the strength required to endure difficult moments. She added,

“The best part is the experiences that you’ve accumulated. So you go, ‘Oh, I’ve been here before. I actually know how to handle this now.’ Or, ‘Maybe I haven’t been in this place, but I’ve experienced something similar to this, and I do know that I will get through it.’ There’s something to knowing that no matter how painful, or how difficult, or how devastating something is, there is a way through.”

She also recognized the necessity of confronting emotions directly, noting,

“You’re going to have to feel it. You’re not going to be able to numb it. You are going to have to feel it, and it’s going to feel insurmountable at times. You’re going to feel like you’re broken, but if you move gently and slowly — and it can take an enormous amount of time — it does pass.”

Implications of Their Shared Experiences and Future Outlook

The parallel timing of Isla Fisher’s and Nicole Kidman’s divorces and their mutual roles as mothers navigating this transition highlight a rare opportunity for mutual support. Having endured high-profile separations themselves, both women embody resilience and a commitment to using personal hardship as a catalyst for growth and understanding. Kidman’s candid reflections on coping and healing offer a hopeful perspective that may guide both friends as they move forward.
