Joe Keery Officiates Wedding Dressed as Stranger Things Steve

Joe Keery, known for his role as Steve Harrington on Stranger Things, officiated a Halloween-themed wedding over the weekend while fully dressed in his iconic Scoops Ahoy uniform. The 33-year-old actor and musician took on this special role for the marriage of his close friend and bandmate Matt Williams to Veronica Capaldi in Simi Valley, California. By embodying his Stranger Things character, Keery added a unique and memorable touch to the ceremony.

Officiating the Wedding in Steve Harrington’s Sailor Outfit

Footage shared on social media shows Keery standing at the altar in the recognizable blue sailor outfit he wore during Stranger Things season 3, alongside Williams and Capaldi. The actor humorously pronounced the couple married, stating,

“And by the power invested in me by the state of California… yesterday, I now pronounce you husband and wife.”

Joe Keery’s performance played into the nostalgic charm of Steve Harrington’s role as a mall ice cream shop employee at Scoops Ahoy, a job he took on in the show’s third season.

Background on Steve Harrington and Keery’s Musical Career

Keery’s character in Stranger Things gained popularity for his evolving heroism and his friendship with Robin Buckley, played by Maya Hawke. Robin and Steve collaborated to uncover secret Russian codes, furthering the storyline during the series’ third season. Beyond acting, Joe Keery remains musically active, performing under the name Djo. He was previously in the band Post Animal alongside Matt Williams and rejoined them for their album Iron, released earlier this year. The group has spent much of the year touring as part of Djo’s Back on You World Tour and continued with the Another Bite Tour, concluding recently in Los Angeles after several sold-out shows.

Upcoming Stranger Things Season and Anticipation

Fans eagerly await Keery’s return to his Stranger Things role in the upcoming fifth and final season, scheduled for release in three separate parts starting November 26. The new season picks up a year after the events of season 4, centering on the Hawkins gang’s efforts to defeat the villain Vecna, portrayed by Jamie Campbell Bower. Co-creator Ross Duffer described the season as,

“the biggest season we’ve ever had in terms of action, in terms of visual effects, in terms of story,”

adding,

“Ultimately, what people want is to see these characters together one last time.”

Release Schedule for the Final Season

The debut volume of season 5 will premiere on November 26 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. The second installment will be released on Christmas Day at the same times, followed by the season’s finale airing independently on New Year’s Eve, again at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. This staggered release approach builds anticipation for the concluding chapter of Stranger Things and marks a significant moment for viewers and the cast alike.
