Taylor Sheridan Leaves Paramount for Major NBCUniversal Deal

Taylor Sheridan, the creator behind Yellowstone, is set to exit Paramount, marking a significant shift in the entertainment industry. This change involves Sheridan’s upcoming partnership with NBCUniversal, a move expected to influence the landscape of prestige television and film production.

Details of Sheridan’s New Agreement with NBCUniversal

Sources reveal that Sheridan will conclude his existing commitments with Paramount before joining NBCUniversal. An eight-year film production deal will commence in March 2026, followed by a five-year overall television agreement starting in 2028. Sheridan’s production company, 101 Studios, overseen by David Glasser, will also transfer to Universal as part of this arrangement.

Reasons Behind the Transition from Paramount

Industry insiders indicate that changes after David Ellison’s acquisition of Paramount in August 2025 played a major role in Sheridan’s decision. Several executives previously collaborating with him were reassigned or dismissed, and the new management, led by streaming head Cindy Holland, scrutinized his production budgets. Furthermore, Ellison’s involvement of Paramount in Sheridan’s separate film deal with Warner Bros. created additional friction between the parties.

Competing Studio Interest and Decision Process

Earlier this year, Sheridan’s team—including CAA, manager Scott Greenberg, and attorneys Neil Meyer and Emily Downs—engaged with multiple studios such as Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon, Netflix, Apple, and NBCUniversal. Sheridan ultimately selected NBCUniversal following discussions with Donna Langley, who now oversees both film and television divisions. Langley’s successful collaborations with filmmakers like Steven Spielberg, Jordan Peele, and Christopher Nolan reportedly influenced Sheridan’s choice.

Paramount’s Position and Ongoing Projects

David Ellison previously praised Sheridan as

a singular genius and content creator,

affirming his intention to retain Sheridan’s storytelling at Paramount

as long as he wants to be telling stories.

Nevertheless, Paramount did not renew Sheridan’s television contract beyond 2028. Current series such as Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, Landman, Lioness, and future Yellowstone spin-offs will continue under Paramount’s banner after Sheridan departs.

Implications of Sheridan’s Move to NBCUniversal

This transition reflects broader shifts in Hollywood’s competition for top creative talent and content. Sheridan’s move to NBCUniversal, combined with Langley’s leadership, promises to reshape upcoming film and television projects. Industry observers expect this partnership to elevate Sheridan’s creative output while intensifying the rivalry among major studios for prestige storytelling.
