During a recent interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Farrell expressed his admiration for the script, calling it a standout work. I really do think it’s a masterwork. Kind of a contemporary genre masterwork. It’s so brilliant and Robert [Pattinson] has got such a lovely journey to go on and take the audience through.

Farrell admitted that despite being eager to read the screenplay, he delayed doing so for two weeks because he was not mentally prepared. When he finally sat down with a cup of tea, Farrell took about two hours to complete it. Reflecting on the screenplay, he described it as dense and intelligent, emphasizing its intricate detail. He said,

It’s really, really intelligent. It’s so detailed.

He went on to praise the director’s vision, adding,

It’s really extraordinary,

and

I think he’s going to make an extraordinary film.

The Batman 2 continues the story from the 2022 hit, with Robert Pattinson returning as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Farrell reprising his role as Oz, also known as The Penguin. Farrell shared that the narrative begins only a few weeks after the events depicted in The Penguin, an HBO crime drama connected to Matt Reeves’ Batman saga.

Filming for the sequel is planned to start in spring 2026, with the release set for October 1, 2027. This positioning keeps fans eagerly awaiting more from the evolving Batman universe, with expectations high after Farrell’s enthusiastic response to the script.
