Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone Future Locked In Through 2029

Taylor Sheridan is set to end his contract with Paramount, but his involvement with the Yellowstone franchise will continue through 2029. Though Sheridan plans to move to NBCUniversal after that date, his current agreement requires him to finish his ongoing projects and develop new shows under Paramount until then. This arrangement ensures that Sheridan’s vision for Yellowstone and its related series remains intact for the next several years.

Current Projects and Expansion of the Yellowstone Universe

Under his existing Paramount contract, Sheridan is actively producing scripts and overseeing multiple series linked to Yellowstone. These include the third season of Lioness, the debut season of The Madison, and two Yellowstone spin-offs, one centered on the Dutton Ranch and another involving Michelle Pfeiffer. Additional titles in production are Tulsa King and NOLA King, continuing Sheridan’s expansive storytelling across various shows. The Yellowstone franchise also plans a new prequel called 1944, which will explore the Dutton family during World War II’s final phase, following the storylines from the 1923 series.

Contractual Details and Industry Conflicts

Reports suggest Sheridan’s decision not to renew with Paramount stemmed from tensions with Paramount CEO David Ellison and streaming producer Cindy Holland, particularly around budgeting issues. Even so, the Yellowstone franchise, including its prequels 1883 and 1923, remains a cornerstone for Paramount’s streaming platform, generating significant audience engagement. Sheridan’s continued efforts to deliver fresh content under his current contract highlight both his commitment and the studio’s reliance on his creations.

New Ventures Beyond Yellowstone and Future Prospects

Sheridan is also branching out to develop a live-action project based on the popular gaming series Call of Duty, partnering with Peter Berg. The two have collaborated previously on films like Wind River and Hell or High Water, bringing Sheridan’s storytelling skills to this new adaptation. Despite uncertainty about what happens to Yellowstone after Sheridan leaves in 2029, it appears the Dutton Ranch and related series will remain stable during his tenure, with decisions on his other projects deferred until closer to his exit.
