Jeremy Renner Teases Hawkeye Season 2 but Decision Pending

Jeremy Renner has offered a new update on the future of Hawkeye season 2, expressing his willingness to return as Clint Barton in a storyline expected to take place shortly after Christmas. Renner revealed that while he is enthusiastic about reprising the role, the final decision rests with Marvel and the production team.

Continuation of Hawkeye’s Storyline Set in Post-Christmas New York

Renner explained,

“It’s really not my decision to make,”

to Screen Rant when asked about the series continuation. He added,

“For a second season, that was always the idea to continue that narrative, even in the Christmas framework of it all, too, because they love that world in New York.”

The first season ended with Barton preventing a major threat in New York City and rushing home to celebrate the holidays with his family, accompanied by Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, who is set to inherit the Hawkeye mantle as per the comics.

The Stakes Remain High with Kingpin’s Threat and Spin-Off Connections

The season concluded with the villain Kingpin escaping capture, allowing his influence to persist across related projects like the Echo mini-series and Daredevil: Born Again seasons 1 and 2. This ongoing threat keeps the narrative tension alive across the Marvel universe.

Renner Reflects on New York and Season Timing

Speaking about the atmosphere surrounding the series’ timing, Renner remarked,

“There’s really no more beautiful place than New York until Christmas. After Christmas is kind of bleak.”

This comment highlights the emotional tone the series may continue to build upon.

Salary Dispute and Its Impact on Season 2 Negotiations

Earlier this year, Renner disclosed that Marvel had approached him about returning for a second season but reportedly offered only half of his original salary from season 1. Renner humorously addressed the reason behind the reduced offer, linking it to his serious accident in 2023:

“I’m like, ‘I’m sorry? Why? Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over?’”

This salary dispute introduced tension into the negotiations surrounding his return.

Renner’s Optimism Despite Uncertainty

Despite the challenges, Renner expressed confidence in a second season happening, telling Empire,

“sure we’ll end up doing season 2 [of ‘Hawkeye’],”

and emphasized his eagerness to continue, saying he is “happy to do it.” However, as of now, no official confirmation has been made, and speculation remains about whether Hawkeye will appear in upcoming projects like Avengers: Doomsday.

Hawkeye’s Reception and Renner’s Recovery Influence MCU Future

The inaugural season of Hawkeye, which boasts a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, premiered on Disney Plus in 2021. Since then, both Clint Barton and Kate Bishop have been absent from live-action Marvel productions, partly due to Renner’s serious accident that required a remarkable recovery. Whether Renner will rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains uncertain, though historically, few Marvel characters remain absent for long.

Where to Watch and What Lies Ahead

Hawkeye is currently available for streaming on Disney Plus. Fans eager for more Marvel content can look forward to a lineup of new films and series planned for release in 2025 and beyond, keeping anticipation high for the franchise’s continued expansion.
