Gary Oldman Returns to London Stage in Krapp’s Last Tape

Gary Oldman, the acclaimed British actor known for his work on both screen and stage, is bringing his performance of Samuel Beckett’s Krapp’s Last Tape to London. The play will be staged at the Royal Court Theatre from 8 to 30 May 2026, marking a significant return for Oldman to the city’s theatre scene.

Oldman is not only starring but also directing and designing the production, which initially premiered at York Theatre Royal in April 2026, the venue where he began his acting career in 1979. This revival highlights Oldman’s deep connection to the material and the city’s theatrical heritage.

An Overview of Krapp’s Last Tape and Its Plot

Krapp’s Last Tape, written by Samuel Beckett, follows the story of a man named Krapp who reflects on his life through annual tape recordings. On his 69th birthday, Krapp listens to a recording he made as a younger man, juxtaposing his past hopes against his present loneliness. The play’s introspective nature explores themes of memory, regret, and the passage of time, offering a profound emotional landscape for Oldman’s interpretation.
