Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson star as a couple who fall in love while performing in a Neil Diamond cover band, as shown in the newly released trailer for Song Sung Blue. The film, based on a true story, follows Mike and Claire Sardina—portrayed by Jackman and Hudson—as they navigate their personal and professional lives through music.
The trailer opens with Mike, played by Jackman, introducing himself as “not a songwriter” or “a sex symbol,” but proudly calling himself an entertainer. Claire, portrayed by Hudson, quickly responds with her own ambitions, expressing her desire to sing and dance to prove her success rather than follow a predictable life path.
The Formation of Lightning & Thunder
The story unfolds as Mike and Claire meet following one of her performances, sharing humorous remarks about country legends Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn. Inspired by Mike’s looks and their mutual passion for music, they decide to form a Neil Diamond tribute band named Lightning & Thunder. Their chemistry is evident when Claire surprises Mike with a kiss, jokingly admitting it’s “not very professional,” yet Jackman’s character eagerly returns the gesture.
As Lightning & Thunder, the pair develop their act into a full-fledged Neil Diamond experience, ultimately landing an opening performance for Pearl Jam, which hints at their rising success. However, the trailer also hints at a turning point involving a severe car accident that challenges their future.
Facing Hardships Together
The accident significantly impacts their journey, with Claire shown bound to a wheelchair in one of the scenes. Despite the uncertainty and fear ahead, she expresses determination and hope, declaring, “I am not afraid anymore!” and emphasizing the strength they find in one another as Lightning & Thunder.
