Tatiana Maslany Stars in Berlin Anti-Romcom ‘Any Other Night’

International sales company Lucky Number has acquired Any Other Night, the English-language debut from Dutch filmmaker Michiel ten Horn, known for his previous work Fabula. Starring Tatiana Maslany, best known for Orphan Black, and Marwan Kenzari of The Old Guard, the film was shot earlier this year in Berlin and is currently in post-production.

Michiel ten Horn’s New Film Arrives Following His Festival Success

Any Other Night marks Michiel ten Horn’s next project after his dark comedy Fabula, which premiered at the Rotterdam festival and later made its Asian debut in Shanghai. Ten Horn has also directed the Netflix horror series Ares and was highlighted by Variety in 2013 as one of the top European directors to watch, solidifying his growing reputation in the international film community.

A Closer Look at the Plot and Characters

Written by Patrick Whistler, known for In Cold Light, Any Other Night explores the unexpected connection between two strangers during a single night in Berlin. Maslany plays Maggie, a woman navigating the turmoil following a breakup, while Kenzari takes on the role of Sam, a struggling musician turned cab driver. What begins as a short taxi ride soon transforms into a chaotic journey through the city and the characters’ personal struggles.

Director ten Horn reflected on the experience, stating,

“It’s been amazing shooting my first English-language film with talents like Tatiana and Marwan,”

he said.

“Being from the same generation, we instantly connected on what this film should be.”

He further explained,

“‘Any Other Night’ explores what happens after you’ve chased your big dreams and realized this isn’t ‘it.’ Life isn’t a romcom — it’s far more complicated. Yet sometimes, one special encounter can shift your perspective.”

Production and Distribution Details

The film is a European collaboration involving several production houses: Lithium Studios (In Cold Light), One Two Films (Holy Spider – winner of Best Actress at Cannes 2022), Lemming Film (recognized for The Secret Agent – Cannes 2025 Best Director and Best Actor), and Film Forge (Infinity Pool – premiered at Sundance 2023). Distribution responsibilities are shared among Elevation Pictures in Canada, Port au Prince in Germany and Austria, and The Searchers for the Benelux region.

A Fresh Perspective on Romance in a Nighttime Berlin Setting

Lucky Number describes Any Other Night as an anti-romantic comedy, presenting a modern, intelligent storytelling approach that diverges from traditional romance narratives. The company emphasized its focus on

wonderfully imperfect, three-dimensional characters that audiences can easily relate to, while taking us on a wild, emotionally charged ride through Berlin at night.”

This positions the film as both clever and entertaining, appealing to viewers who appreciate nuanced character-driven stories set against the backdrop of urban life.

As the film progresses through post-production, anticipation builds for its debut at the American Film Market, where an exclusive promotional reel will be showcased to buyers, signaling significant interest from international distributors. The collaboration of diverse European producers along with the compelling performances by Tatiana Maslany and Marwan Kenzari promise an engaging addition to the evolving landscape of romantic storytelling.
