Sydney Sweeney Eyes Charity Boxing Match: “I Can Take Punch”

Sydney Sweeney is considering stepping into a real boxing ring to support a charitable cause, inspired by her role as boxing legend Christy Martin in the upcoming biopic Christy. The 28-year-old actress revealed the possibility during a recent interview with SportsCasting after developing a passion for the sport while filming.

Christy Martin Encourages Sweeney’s Boxing Ambitions

Sweeney confirmed that the idea of participating in a charity boxing match is more than just hypothetical. Christy Martin herself has expressed enthusiasm about signing her up for a fight, showing active support for the actress’s potential debut in the ring.

“Christy said she’d sign me up. So, this isn’t as hypothetical as you actually think it is,”

Sweeney said.

“Yeah, I’d totally do a charity bout, that’d be so sick.”

Regarding who she might face in the ring, Sweeney kept the details under wraps, teasing a surprise opponent. She hinted at a future event by encouraging fans to stay tuned for the pay-per-view announcement.

“It’s a surprise, you’ll have to wait, I’m serious,”

she said.

“You gotta stay tuned for the pay-per-view and you’ll see it.”

Meanwhile, Christy Martin expressed her desire to act as Sweeney’s promoter, adding mystery about possible opponents with a promise of revealing names at a later date.

“I have some names that we can’t throw out yet,”

Martin teased in the same interview.

Sydney Sweeney’s Rigorous Boxing Preparation

Sweeney’s commitment to boxing training has been intense and disciplined. She detailed a strict daily routine spanning over two months, combining weight training and boxing sessions to build strength and skill in the ring.

“For about two and a half months, I would weight train in the morning for an hour, box three hours in the middle of the day, and then another hour of weight training at night,”

Sweeney explained.

“I put on 35 pounds and it was hard. I started losing weight once I upped my boxing time and had to find that balance, just continually pounding more and more protein shakes.”

She has placed special focus on perfecting her left hook, a move she trained daily, and considers her resilience a key strength if she steps into the ring.

“I loved it. I worked hardest on that left hook,”

Sweeney said.

“And I think what would get me through a fight is that I can take a punch. I wouldn’t quit.”

While she has not yet received official offers for a boxing match, Sweeney mentioned receiving some intriguing direct messages from professional boxers, adding excitement to the prospect.

The film Christy, starring Sweeney as the celebrated boxer, is scheduled to be released in theaters starting November 7.
