Russell Crowe has shed over 50 pounds, reaching a healthier weight after struggling with injuries and inflammation. The actor, known for his roles in films such as Gladiator, shared insights into his process during an interview on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast on November 5, revealing how his commitment to diet, exercise, and a specialized treatment program helped him achieve this transformation.
A Multi-Faceted Approach to Weight Loss and Health
Crowe explained that when he completed filming Nuremberg, he weighed 277 pounds (126 kilos). Since then, he has brought his weight down to approximately 222 pounds (100.9 kilos) through a combination of lifestyle changes and medical support. Besides focusing on improved diet and an exercise routine, Crowe credited joining the wellness platform Ways2Well, recommended by Joe Rogan, as a key factor in his progress.
Ways2Well offers therapies such as bloodwork analysis, hormone optimization, stem cell treatments, and peptide therapy, all aimed at reducing inflammation and improving overall bodily function. Crowe, who has accumulated various bodily injuries from years of performing demanding roles, confirmed that he received injections targeting his shoulders and knees.
Reducing Inflammation and Managing Chronic Injuries
Crowe described the relief he gained from these treatments, particularly in managing arthritic pain. He said,
“I’m not really across the science, but the real benefit I’m getting from these into my shoulders, my knees, and also IVs, is that it’s calmed down my body’s inflammation,”
Russell Crowe explained.
“I think we talked before about just how many old injuries I carry, and how the injuries in my shoulders are deeply arthritic.”
He further detailed the visible improvements under ultrasound scans, noting,

“But we can now see in an ultrasound that a year ago I had big thick bands of arthritis, and now it’s lessened by about 70 percent. On one area in my right shoulder, probably by about 90 percent. It’s all going good, and I’m just feeling the musculature starting to build and everything.”
Adjusting Lifestyle Habits for Long-Term Wellness
Aside from medical treatments, Crowe made changes to his alcohol consumption, becoming more selective about when and what he drinks. He stated,
“I’m a big proponent for having a drink — it’s my cultural heritage and as a working class man, it’s my goddamn right, Joe,”
Russell Crowe said.
“But as you get older, there are certain things you start to learn about your capacities.”
He revealed a new mindfulness about drinking, saying,
“If I decide to have a glass of wine with dinner, it’s going to be a really nice wine,”
he continued.
“I try not to have casual drinks, now. [As in] having a drink for the sake of it.”
Maintaining Steady Progress Without Burnout
The actor emphasized the importance of pacing himself to avoid exhaustion or losing motivation. Crowe confessed his concerns about balancing intense workouts with upcoming projects. Regarding his role in the remake of Highlander, he said,
“That was one of the things I was worried about with [working on the upcoming remake of 1986’s Highlander], because jumping into that role with the shoot date coming, I was thinking that I’ve got to do three workouts a day,”
Russell Crowe explained.
“That’s a bad recipe for me because I can do that for X amount of time, but once I stop, I’m going to stop completely.”
His goal remains sustainable change. As he concluded,
“What I want to do is make all these changes and make it a long-term situation,”
Crowe said.
“[The injections] was a great call for me, because it’s calmed down a bunch of stuff and it’s taking a bunch of pain away, so I can go and work out and not have to suffer for two or three hours afterwards.”
Personal Life Reflections Amid Transformation
Crowe’s renewed health became visible to the public when he appeared at Wimbledon in July alongside his girlfriend, Britney Theriot. Despite recent rumors, he confirmed in an interview with Karl Stefanovic that he and Theriot, 33, have no plans to marry. Referring to these speculations, he said,
“All these reports coming out that Britney and I are engaged and I’m going to get married again? No,”
Russell Crowe stated.
“My life is joyous and happy, why ruin that with a wedding?”
