Catherine Zeta-Jones Wants Danny DeVito for Wednesday Role

As the second season of Netflix’s “Wednesday” wrapped up at Nevermore Academy, discussions about the upcoming third season have already begun. Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays Morticia Addams in the series, suggested that her longtime friend Danny DeVito should join the cast, specifically in the role of Cousin Itt, though she expressed doubt about whether he would accept the part.

Catherine Zeta-Jones Champions Danny DeVito as a New Cast Member

Zeta-Jones is married to Michael Douglas, an actor and producer who has shared a decades-long friendship with Danny DeVito dating back to their time as roommates in the late 1960s. Speaking at the Wednesday FYC event in Hollywood, she voiced surprise that DeVito had not yet been cast in the show.

“I don’t know how Danny DeVito hasn’t been cast already,”

Catherine Zeta-Jones told Variety.

“I was with him for our birthday in September [she and Douglas share the same birthday, Sept. 25] and I was like, ‘Why isn’t Danny DeVito in Wednesday?’… Imagine Danny DeVito as Cousin Itt? That’d be so cool.”

Cousin Itt, originally introduced in the classic Addams Family television series, is Gomez Addams’s cousin and is famously covered from head to toe in long hair, often accessorized with a bowler hat and sunglasses. In Wednesday, Gomez Addams is played by Luis Guzmán. Although the character might be an unusual fit for DeVito, Zeta-Jones remains intrigued by the idea.

“He’s gonna kill me for that,”

she joked.

“He’s like, ‘Yeah, they’re going to cast me and put hair all over my face. Thanks for suggesting that, Catherine.’

Setting the Stage for New and Returning Faces in ‘Wednesday’

The series continues to blend returning stars and fresh talent, with Jenna Ortega reprising her role as Wednesday Addams and Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair. Fans eagerly anticipate more guest appearances and possibly new casting surprises in the upcoming season. Catherine Zeta-Jones’s proposal highlights the potential for well-known actors to join the expanding ensemble.

With the strong performances of the current cast and the nostalgic appeal of the Addams Family characters, the suggestion of Danny DeVito’s involvement could add a distinctive element to the show’s atmosphere. It remains to be seen if the producers will pursue this casting idea as the series develops further.
