Timothée Chalamet stars in A24’s upcoming sports drama, Marty Supreme, which released its new trailer ahead of its anticipated December 25, 2025, launch. The film centers on the rise of Marty Hauser, a young athlete determined to achieve fame through table tennis, inspired by real-life player Marty Reisman.
A Gazing Look into the Grit Behind the Game
The recently released trailer expands on the underdog narrative introduced in the teaser, depicting Marty’s relentless effort to make his mark in the competitive world of table tennis. Directed by Josh Safdie, the film also features Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin O’Leary, Odessa A’zion, and Tyler, the Creator, rounding out a diverse cast.
Critical Buzz and Awards Potential Surrounding the Film
Even before its release, Marty Supreme is being hailed as a serious contender in awards discussions, particularly spotlighting Chalamet’s leading role. Industry buzz suggests this film could cement his status after his performance in the Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown. The official synopsis highlights the story’s core:
“A young man with a dream no one respects goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness.”
Chalamet’s Intense Preparation Captured by Cinematographer
The film’s cinematographer, Khondji, shared that Chalamet immersed himself wholeheartedly in mastering the sport.
“He wanted to be like a real [professional] ping pong player when he started shooting,”
Khondji said, noting that the actor’s transformation would be so drastic that
“people are going to recognize him at all.”
Chalamet’s Dedication: Training Amidst a Busy Schedule
Chalamet detailed to The Hollywood Reporter how he trained for the role while concurrently working on other projects.

“Everything I was working on was this secret: I had a table in London while I was making Wonka. On Dune 2, I had a table in Budapest, Jordan. I had a table in Abu Dhabi. I had a table at the Cannes Film Festival for The French Dispatch. I got myself an Airbnb in a town [around] Saint-Tropez after The French Dispatch, overlooking the water, and I was taking lessons there,”
he explained.
Relating Deeply to Marty’s Relentless Pursuit
Chalamet also expressed a strong personal connection to his character’s journey.
“Some people are fortunate enough to stumble into their success or be passive about their pursuit of whatever they want to do in life,”
he said.
“That wasn’t it for me. For me, it was putting in the 10,000 hours. It was dropping out of college. It was taking a risk. It was pursuing projects that were untraditional at first — at the time, it was kind of radical, the choices I was making when I was 20.”
Anticipating the Impact of Marty Supreme’s Release
As Marty Supreme prepares for its holiday release, the film promises a tense and gripping portrayal of relentless ambition. Given the cast, Chalamet’s transformation, and the emotional depth behind the story, it is expected to resonate strongly with audiences and critics alike, potentially shaping Chalamet’s career trajectory and contributing to renewed attention on the sport of table tennis.
