Despite her rising status in Hollywood, Florence Pugh recently revealed she has regrets about one of her past films. Known for her versatility in blockbusters, Marvel films, and critically praised dramas and horrors, Pugh shared her feelings during a podcast interview with Louis Theroux. There, she discussed her lengthy career and singled out a 2018 supernatural horror movie, Malevolent, as a project she wishes she never took on.
During the conversation, Theroux acknowledged Pugh’s strong performance in Malevolent, describing it as “not bad.” Astonishingly, Pugh herself has never watched the film and admitted regret over her involvement.
It’s probably the one movie that I wish I never did,
Pugh said.
I think everybody has one of those movies. I think it was just a movie that I did when I was younger, and I needed money. And I was like, ‘Well, obviously this is great.’ And then I got there, and it wasn’t great.
Plot and Production Details of the Controversial Movie
In Malevolent, Pugh plays Angela Sayers, alongside Ben Lloyd-Hughes, who portrays her brother Jackson. The siblings run scams by convincing clients that Angela possesses psychic abilities to communicate with the deceased. However, Angela’s grip on reality falters after the siblings encounter haunting supernatural events at a deserted orphanage.
The film was directed by Olaf de Fleur and written by Ben Ketai and Eva Konstantopoulos, adapted from Konstantopoulos’s 2011 novel Hush. Despite its intriguing premise, the movie received a lukewarm reception upon its release in October 2018 on Netflix, holding a 54% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Upcoming Projects Marking a New Chapter for Pugh
Looking ahead, Florence Pugh has several high-profile projects set to debut in 2026, marking a busy year in her career. She will return as Yelena Belova in Avengers: Doomsday and reprise her role as Princess Irulan in Dune: Part Three, with both releases scheduled for December 18, 2026. Additionally, Pugh stars in East of Eden, a limited series adaptation of John Steinbeck’s 1952 novel, which filmed through 2025 and is expected to premiere on Netflix the following year.
These upcoming roles contrast with her reflection on earlier choices, highlighting her growth and the evolving trajectory of her career within Hollywood’s landscape.
