The Jason Statham Beekeeper 2 sequel has officially finished filming, marking a significant production milestone as anticipation builds for its planned 2025 release. Directed by Timo Tjahjanto, this follow-up to the successful 2024 film completed shooting at Shepperton Studios in England.
Director Reflects on Production Journey
Timo Tjahjanto, newly at the helm for the Beekeeper 2 sequel, took to social media to share his thoughts on wrapping production.
“What an incredible, exhausting, hardcore, enlightening, and ultimately beautiful journey it has been,”
Tjahjanto expressed.
“I’ve never been so humbled and perpetually inspired by the constant presence of these larger-than-life cast and crew that are just absolutely the best at what they do.”
The director further shared his gratitude, stating,
“Will miss this experience and counting the days to be working with all of you again.”
Stepping in for David Ayer, who led the original movie but was unable to return due to other commitments, Tjahjanto brings recent experience from directing Nobody 2 starring Bob Odenkirk. Nobody 2 debuted in August and grossed $41 million. Tjahjanto also noted a personal connection with the franchise, saying,
“I’m definitely drawn to the Beekeeper series just because when I watched it, I always felt that, ‘Wow, this is essentially Statham playing one of my favorite characters in the Marvel universe, which is The Punisher,’”
highlighting a key inspiration for the sequel’s tone.
Returning Stars and New Faces in the Cast
Jason Statham reprises his lead role as Adam Clay, once again at the center of the action. Emmy Raver-Lampman returns as FBI agent Verona Parker, seen in recent set photos alongside Statham filming an intense street sequence. Jeremy Irons will step back into the role of ex-CIA director Wallace Westwyld, and Jemma Redgrave returns as President Danforth. The sequel’s new cast includes Plom Klementieff, known for her role in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, along with Adam Copeland and Yara Shahidi, adding fresh dynamics to the ensemble.
Box Office Success Sets High Expectations
The original film released on January 12, 2024, surprising industry watchers by earning $162 million globally on a $40 million budget. Critical reception was also positive, as the movie currently holds a 71% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. ScreenRant’s review noted it as a
“non-stop action flick that is high on adrenaline.”
What Lies Ahead for the Beekeeper Series
Shooting for the Jason Statham Beekeeper 2 sequel began in late September and finished as confirmed by Tjahjanto, though an exact release date is still unannounced. The film promises to expand the universe of Adam Clay, drawing on comic book influences and featuring both established and new cast members. With its production now complete, fans await further updates regarding its premiere, as the series aims to build on the momentum and acclaim of its predecessor.
