Mandy Moore recently shared insights into how the nature of her friendships has evolved since becoming a parent, highlighting the complexities of mom friendships today. The actress spoke candidly on January 14 during the Conversations With Cam Podcast about how her relationships have shifted as her children have grown, touching on the challenges and emotional aspects of these changes.
How Motherhood Has Transformed Mandy Moore’s Friendships
Two weeks after Ashley Tisdale’s revealing essay about leaving a toxic mom friend group, Mandy Moore reflected on similar shifts within her own circle. Moore, mother to three children—August, 4, Oscar, 3, and Louise, 16 months—with husband Taylor Goldsmith, emphasized that being at different parenting stages has affected the closeness she shares with some friends.
Do you feel like you have seen a friendship sort of take a different course?
Mandy asked host Cameron Rogers during her podcast appearance.
I have friends who have kids that are older, let’s say. And I have found that the people I am closest with in my life right now are people who are kind of at the same chapter of their lives as parents.
While Moore values these connections, she also acknowledged mourning the evolution of friendships rather than their outright loss.

We have kids the same age and I’ve had to sort of mourn in a way,
she shared.
not the loss of those friendships, but like how they’ve changed.
Origins and Evolution of the Mom Friend Group Centered Around Hilary Duff
The actress’s comments came in the wake of Ashley Tisdale’s public explanation about departing from a celebrity mom circle she described as exclusionary. Ashley, mother to Jupiter, 4, and Emerson, 16 months, with Christopher French, did not name individuals directly, but previously shared glimpses of her time with other moms including Hilary Duff, Meghan Trainor, and Mandy Moore.
Moore highlighted that the friend group’s foundation was closely tied to their shared experience of having babies during the pandemic.
I think the origin story is all kind of having pandemic babies and Hilary Duff is a very dear friend of mine,
she said.
She and her husband Matt [Koma] are very close with me and Taylor, my husband.
Hilary Duff, according to Moore, played a pivotal role in starting the group, which began as a way for mothers with toddlers to connect and support one another.
She was just like a boss,
Mandy explained.
She was like, ‘we need a music class. We need community.’ And so she sort of started this music class at her house and gathered a group of incredible women and I brought a few into the fold, as well. And we evolved from music class to movement class to all hanging out.
From these initial gatherings, the friendships deepened, extending beyond the children’s activities into wider social bonds.
People get together for holidays, people get together for birthdays,
Moore said.
We go to the zoo, you know? It’s like just all the things you do collectively as like a friends group.
The Role of the Mom Group Chat and Ongoing Dynamics
While Ashley Tisdale reportedly exited the group with a brief message in their shared chat stating she did not want to participate any longer, Mandy Moore described ongoing communication within the mom group as lively and multifaceted.
The moms chat is always like popping off with questions, comments, concerns,
she said. Like, fun gossip.

Bobby Berk, who departed from Queer Eye after eight seasons, responded in January 2024 to speculation about his relationship with fellow cast member Tan France. He reassured fans there was no professional fallout, framing the issue as a personal matter unrelated to the show.
I want people to know that Tan and I—we will be fine,
he told Vanity Fair.
There was a situation, and that’s between Tan and I, and it has nothing to do with the show. It was something personal that had been brewing—and nothing romantic, just to clarify that.
Tan France later refuted rumors that he attempted to replace Bobby on the show with Jeremiah Brent, clarifying that casting decisions were handled transparently.
Netflix and the production companies did a full-on casting. I didn’t put my friend up for the job. They ended up getting it because they were the best person for the job,
he stated on Instagram.
But I didn’t get them hired by getting rid of somebody else.

Cohen asked.
Parker responded,
Just…heartbroken. I mean that whole week, you and I spoke about it because I was just…I don’t know I found it really upsetting because that’s, you know, that’s not the way I recall our experience.
So…it’s sad but I’m kind of…I don’t know, I always think that what ties us together is this singular experience is the thing. It was a professional experience but it became personal because it was years and years of our lives. So I’m hoping that that sort of eclipses anything that’s been recently spoken,
she continued.
That many years spent doing something so special that people had a connection with is such a privileged.

Cardi added.
I love my daughter. I’m a good-ass f–king mom. So for somebody that don’t have a child to like that comment? So many people want to say that party wasn’t the time or the place, but I’m not going to catch another artist in the grocery store or down the block.
