Liam Neeson Narrates Historic Rebrand of Boxing Ireland

Hollywood actor and former boxer Liam Neeson lends his voice to a landmark video announcing the rebranding of the Irish Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) to Boxing Ireland. This change reflects a renewed mission to honor the sport’s heritage and highlight the talent nurtured across Ireland. The video features prominent Irish boxers, including Donegal’s European champion Roisin Hegarty and double Olympic gold medallist Kellie Harrington.

Roisin Hegarty’s Role and Recent Achievements

Roisin Hegarty, a youthful standout from Donegal’s Twin Towns Boxing Club, appears prominently in the new promotional video. Last year, Hegarty secured European U15 gold in Montenegro by defeating Ukrainian opponent Tetiana Zvenihorodska, becoming the first female boxer from Donegal to claim a European title in the 63kg category. After her return, she earned silver at the Athy Box Cup, narrowly losing the Girl 2 63kg final to Sinead O’Doherty, having earlier defeated Ashling Greene from Dealgan BC during a Twin Towns BC tournament in Ballybofey.

Notable Figures Featured in the Rebranding Initiative

The identity video also highlights international boxer James Whelan and European champion Kristian Jubani, alongside boxing authorities overseeing the new direction. Liam Neeson’s narration gains special significance due to his personal history in the sport, having boxed competitively for the All Saints ABC club in Ballymena during his youth, blending his acting fame with authentic boxing roots.

Leadership Perspective on the New Boxing Ireland Brand

Gary Stewart, CEO of Boxing Ireland, emphasized the importance of the rebrand in fostering a stronger and more unified identity for the sport across Ireland and beyond. Stewart stated,

“It gives us a clearer, stronger and more recognisable identity, both at home and internationally, which is essential for increasing awareness of Irish boxing and the incredible talent within our community. Boxing builds people for life. The new identity says unequivocally that we are Boxing Ireland, and we’re proud of it.”
