Adrien Brody is making a notable return to the Super Bowl advertising scene after a 15-year gap, starring in a TurboTax commercial that will air during Super Bowl LX on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The 52-year-old actor takes on the role of a TurboTax agent in what marks only his second-ever commercial during the game, bringing a fresh and humorous take to an event widely known for its high-profile ads. This new spot highlights how TurboTax simplifies tax season, while playfully challenging Brody’s serious, dramatic image.
The Creative Concept Behind Brody’s TurboTax Spot
The TurboTax commercial humorously contrasts Brody’s usual intense acting style with the ease of using TurboTax during a stressful time of year. A teaser of the ad reveals that Brody doesn’t have to bring heavy drama to the role because TurboTax removes the difficulties typically associated with tax filing.
TurboTax came up with this concept that is just so fun, hilarious and relatable, [because] I think the idea of the complexity and drama of tax season, and me, as a dramatic actor, wanting to delve deep into that, and not being able to do it because TurboTax makes it drama-free and easy, is hilarious,
Brody tells PEOPLE.

To make fun of the perception of me being this heavy, dramatic actor is really a blast and so fun, and it’s really liberating,
he adds.
I think people have this misconception that if one does serious dramatic work, or if one gravitates toward that kind of work often, that he or she doesn’t have a funny bone. But I love comedy, and I love the idea of making fun of myself.
Details on the Commercial’s Broadcast and Extended Release
The TurboTax ad campaign around Super Bowl LX includes a 30-second teaser during the pre-game, followed by a 45-second spot just before halftime. Additionally, a 15-second version of the commercial will be shown before kickoff in the matchup between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks. Beyond the broadcast, an extended two-minute version will be released on TurboTax’s digital platforms, feature in its new retail stores, and play in theaters nationwide.
Brody’s Experience Working on the Commercial
Brody, who is preparing for his upcoming Broadway debut in The Fear of 13, shared that collaborating with TurboTax and director Craig Gillespie, known for I, Tonya, was an enjoyable process. The set environment allowed for laughter and improvisation, bringing a relaxed energy to the project.
It was just so enjoyable, from the atmosphere on set to everyone laughing, and they allowed a degree of improvisation, so we could riff on these great ideas,
Brody tells PEOPLE.
I think it’s a great product, and I get to support something that’s helpful to people,
he adds, expressing his connection to the brand and its benefits.
Anticipated Audience Reaction and Impact
Brody is hopeful that viewers will appreciate the humor woven into the commercial, especially as tax season is often associated with stress. He believes the advertisement will provide lighthearted relief during a taxing period.
I think viewers will get a great deal of enjoyment
from the commercial, Brody says, hoping it
provide a bit of humor in a stressful time.
The actor’s return to the Super Bowl advertising stage, combined with the playful tone of the TurboTax spot, reinforces his range beyond serious acting and offers a fresh angle for audiences tuning in for the game.
