Jameela Jamil disclosed that she received numerous death threats after private texts in which she criticized Blake Lively were leaked. The actress explained how her messages, sent to Justin Baldoni’s publicist Jennifer Abel, became public amid an ongoing court battle involving Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. This controversy has drawn in several celebrities and attracted widespread attention.
Context Behind the Text Leak and Legal Dispute
The dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni has been active for an extended period, pulling in various parties. Within the leaked messages, Jamil referred to Lively in harsh terms, calling her a “suicide bomber” and a “villain,” which sparked a strong reaction from the public and critics.
Jamil described the intense response she faced:
24 hours of death threats, lots of accusations of not being a real feminist, lots of encouragement for me to kill myself.
She revealed that the private messages were never intended for Blake’s eyes but were exposed when the phone of the individual she was texting was confiscated and its content handed over to a third party. This ultimately resulted in the texts being viewed by Blake herself.
Jamil provided further detail on her experience in a recent Substack post:
In short, I slagged off an actor in private, over their diabolical press tour in August 2024, and then the phone of the person I was texting got taken, and its contents were handed over to a third party, which unfortunately, but classically, resulted in my texts being seen by the exact person I was slagging off … (lol)!
She also explained the connection to the ongoing legal case:
Four months later, that person filed a lawsuit (not as lol), that involved the person I had been texting (because of course)… and for some reason, a year later, my texts were released, in spite of having little to no relevance to the case, with my name unredacted, to the entire world.
The Impact of the Leak and What May Follow
This incident highlights the complications celebrities face when private conversations become public during legal disputes. Jamil’s experience shows how her involvement in the court battle between Lively and Baldoni has exposed her to extreme online harassment. The release of her texts, despite their limited connection to the lawsuit, has unsettled her and sparked concern over privacy breaches in such high-profile cases.
As tensions continue to unfold, it remains unclear which other figures might become entangled in this ongoing drama surrounding the legal fight, media scrutiny, and public reactions.
