Natalie Portman, Olivia Wilde Condemn ICE After Deadly Shooting

At the Sundance Film Festival on January 24 in Park City, Utah, actresses Natalie Portman and Olivia Wilde publicly criticized Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following the fatal shooting of an American protester in Minneapolis. The Natalie Portman ICE protest highlighted outrage over the use of deadly force by federal immigration agents during demonstrations.

Recent Fatal Shootings Spark Outrage Among Celebrities

Olivia Wilde, attending the premiere of her film The Invite, condemned the killing of a second protester by federal officers in just three weeks. She described the incident as “unfathomable” and expressed disbelief at witnessing

“people get murdered in the street.”

Wilde referred to the victims as “brave Americans” standing up against perceived injustice by ICE agents and emphasized that such violence must not become normalized.

The latest victim, 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Pretti, died after being pinned down and shot multiple times by federal officers. Pretti’s death followed the earlier shooting of Renee Good, also 37, who was killed while sitting in her car by an ICE officer in Minneapolis.

Condemnations Highlight Government Role and Public Response

Wilde, who wore an “ICE OUT” badge during the festival, called the government’s treatment of protestors exercising free speech “un-American.” She added that although some officials may try to justify the violence, “we Americans don’t.”

Meanwhile, Oscar-winning Natalie Portman, promoting her new film The Gallerist, became emotional while addressing the situation. She denounced the actions of President Donald Trump, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and ICE as “obscene” and “outrageous,” insisting that the mistreatment of citizens and undocumented individuals must stop immediately.

Impact of the Shootings and What Lies Ahead

The public statements from prominent Hollywood figures like Portman and Wilde have intensified scrutiny of ICE’s handling of protests and the broader U.S. immigration enforcement policies. These events and the celebrity condemnations underline the growing national concern regarding government accountability and human rights amid escalating tensions.

As the debate surrounding immigration enforcement continues, the deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Good remain a stark reminder of the human cost involved, sparking calls for urgent reform and increased transparency from authorities overseeing such operations.
