Johnson has now shared his perspective on the Star Wars franchise’s direction after Kennedy’s departure, clarifying previous public misunderstandings. He said,

emphasizing his respect for Kathleen Kennedy. Johnson also highlighted his enthusiasm about new creative voices shaping the Star Wars universe:

“As a Star Wars fan, the most exciting thing for me is always seeing when they bring in fresh voices and fresh filmmakers to come in and tell new stories in that world. That’s what I am looking forward to seeing more happen.”

Reflecting on his work with The Last Jedi, Johnson described the project as a rewarding experience, stating,

“I had the time of my life doing it. I am now an even bigger Star Wars fan than I was when going into it.”
