Robert Pattinson Made Batman His On-Set Music Studio

Robert Pattinson is preparing to return as Batman in the eagerly awaited sequel, and during an interview with GQ Music, he revealed how his time on set involved more than just acting. The actor shared that his role as Batman became a unique opportunity for him to explore music production, creating sounds directly on the movie’s set. This integration of his passion for music with his performance highlights a rare side of the actor often overlooked.

Turning the Batcowl Into a Creative Space for Music

In the interview, Pattinson disclosed that he took advantage of breaks during filming to work on music while still wearing parts of his Batman costume. When asked if music remained a current interest, Pattinson acknowledged ongoing efforts to create “little bits and bobs” of music, stating he had recorded material at times. However, he expressed a frustration about the vulnerability that comes with releasing music, worried about potential negative reactions.

“It’s just so difficult to tell whether you’re being a total dork. And then the risk/reward is so high. It would be so embarrassing if you’re like, ‘Oh, I made some songs.’ And they’re like, ‘Yeah, it’s s**t.’ It’s so awful,”

Pattinson admitted.

Further probing from the interviewer about the style of music led Pattinson to elaborate on the variety of sounds he experimented with, describing his creations as a mixture without a fixed direction. He reflected on how during filming, he produced extensive ambient electronic tracks, particularly while on breaks.

“During Batman, I made tons and tons of ambient electronic music. There’s a video that’s my favorite… I was in a tent the whole time, basically, whenever I was on a break on Batman, and I’ve got my headphones over the bat ears and I’m making electronic music on MPC with my vape, done up like Batman,”

he explained.

The interviewer’s surprise about Pattinson keeping the cowl on while making music prompted him to confirm the difficulty in removing the headpiece, but he managed to fit headphones over it to continue working.

“With the cowl on! It was so difficult to get the cowl off, but I got the headphones over the cowl,”

Pattinson said.

Balancing Artistic Identities and Future Music Plans

Pattinson also touched on the internal conflict faced when considering whether to share his musical creations with the public. He revealed moments of contemplation about releasing his unreleased tracks, but acknowledged the challenge of defining his identity amidst multiple creative pursuits.

“There was a period where I thought I was going to release that. You have to decide who you want to be in this life; you can’t be everything,”

he reflected.

This struggle to reconcile his acting career with his music interests reveals the complexities behind Pattinson’s artistic choices, hinting at the pressures he feels in choosing which side of his creativity to highlight. As he continues his journey as the new Batman, his music endeavors remain a private, yet deeply personal outlet.
