Paris Hilton Defends Millie Bobby Brown Amid Harsh Criticism

Paris Hilton addressed the harsh and cruel criticism she and Britney Spears endured during the early 2000s, highlighting the isolating nature of growing up in the spotlight. Speaking on the January 29 episode of I’ve Never Said This Before With Tommy DiDario, Hilton revealed how both she and Spears, now 44, found solidarity through their shared experiences with relentless public scrutiny.

Hilton explained that experiencing fame at such a young age left few people able to truly understand their struggles. She emphasized how rare it is to connect with someone who has faced such relentless online and media attacks.

I was just with Britney a few weeks ago for her birthday in Mexico, and we were just talking about how cruel and mean-spirited people were back then,

Hilton said.

And she is someone that can relate to that. Very few people can. It has made us both so strong.

How Paris Hilton Used a Public Persona as a Shield

During the interview, Hilton discussed how her “dumb blonde” persona, popularized in her show The Simple Life, served as a protective barrier against criticism. This character allowed her to distance herself from the negativity directed at her, which she later saw as a trauma response to early fame’s overwhelming nature.

I think that everyone just saw me as that character because that’s how the world got to know me. And I also played into it even more, which I didn’t even realize ’til later on as, like, a trauma response from everything that I went through,

Hilton explained.

So I think it was, like, also a mask to just protect myself. Just experiencing that level of fame at such a young age is very overwhelming.

She added that having this persona helped her endure the world watching and dissecting every part of her life.

Just to have the whole world, you know, watching, picking me apart, just, like, it was very difficult. So, I think having that character, it really, it saved me from a lot of pain because when people would be mean or say things, like, I’d be like, ‘Oh, it’s not me. It’s just the character.’

Continuing Challenges for Young Female Celebrities Today

Despite some societal progress over the past two decades, Hilton noted that women in the spotlight, especially the younger generation, continue to face severe criticism and negative judgment. Host Tommy DiDario brought up Millie Bobby Brown, star of Stranger Things, as a current example of a young celebrity receiving harsh public scrutiny.

Hilton voiced her concern over this ongoing issue, linking the negativity toward young women in entertainment to the insecurities of those who attack them.

You know, it has changed so much, but then there still is those people who just can’t help themselves. And I just feel like they’re not happy with themselves if they’re going to, you know, tear down these young women,

Hilton said.

And that’s why I continue to use my voice to make a difference and to point that out to others. Hopefully things will change the more people do that.

Paris Hilton Praises Millie Bobby Brown’s Strength in Handling Fame

Hilton shared a personal admiration for Millie Bobby Brown’s resilience, describing the 21-year-old actress as brilliant and remarkably strong. She noted that they maintain contact through text messaging and that Brown’s recent assertiveness impressed her deeply.

I have so much respect for Millie. I love her so much. We text all the time. She is so brilliant, such a strong girl,

Hilton said.

And I’m just so impressed with her in every way. And I’m feel so proud of her. I told her right when I saw that she stuck up for herself, I was like, ‘Wow.’ Like I wish I could have done that back in the day.

The Larger Impact of Hilton’s Support for Young Stars

Paris Hilton’s defense of Millie Bobby Brown underscores the persistent challenges young female celebrities face with public judgment and online hostility. By speaking out about her own experiences and supporting current stars, Hilton highlights the importance of empathy and advocacy for mental well-being among young women in entertainment. Her acknowledgment that change requires collective action suggests an ongoing effort to improve the culture surrounding fame and criticism.
