Speaking to PEOPLE Magazine during the premiere of their new film, The Rip, in early January, Damon highlighted how life’s changes have influenced their dynamic while the core of their relationship remains strong.

Damon acknowledged that their lives have undergone significant changes, especially with the addition of children and new phases of life, which have created differences in their daily routines.
“Well the circumstances of our lives have changed a lot and obviously we’ve gone through different phases of life, having kids, so those things are vastly different,”
Matt Damon said.
Despite these shifts, Damon emphasized that the foundation of who they are as individuals was formed together early in their youth.
“But I feel like who we are as people was kind of established together a long time ago in our adolescence and teens and those things have been pretty consistent,”
the actor added.

“At some point, we got convinced of this idea, like, ‘Well, you don’t wanna work together all the time, you’ll become sort of associated with each other.’ And that’s negative,”
Affleck recalled.
However, their deep connection eventually led them to set aside that belief and rekindle their creative partnership.
“But ultimately, it was sort of like, ‘F*** that. I don’t know, let’s work together.’ Cause that’s the beautiful, that’s the fun.”
