Pete Davidson Shares Sweet, Surprising Origin of Baby Name

Pete Davidson became a father on December 12 when he and his partner Elsie Hewitt welcomed their daughter, Scottie Rose Hewitt Davidson. The couple recently opened up about the special meaning behind their choice of baby name, which reflects both personal and heartfelt connections.

The Story Behind the Name Scottie

The name Scottie honors Pete Davidson’s late father, Scott Davidson, a New York City firefighter who tragically died responding to the September 11 terrorist attacks. Davidson explained that the name also has a unique origin tied to their daughter’s conception.

“She was conceived in Scotland,” Davidson revealed, highlighting the literal geographic link that influenced their choice. The couple traveled to Scotland for a wedding celebrated by musician Dave Navarro, where their daughter was conceived.

Elsie Hewitt added perspective on why Scottie stood out among other names they considered.

We went through so many different names, [but Scottie was] an early favorite. We always knew that was the one we were going to come back to, because it was the most meaningful. It’s also so cute.

Choosing a Meaningful Middle Name

Although the couple briefly considered more traditional Staten Island names such as Mikey, Johnny, Tommy, Mark, Amy, Bridget, or Maggie, they ultimately selected Scottie for its gender-neutral tone and meaningful roots. The name literally means “from Scotland,” tying the baby’s identity to her place of conception.

Elsie Hewitt spoke about the significance of Scottie’s middle name, Rose.

My middle name is Rose, and both of my sisters’ middle names are also Rose, because my mom’s maiden name had Rose in it. So I wanted to have a little special part of them in her name, too.

This choice reflects a family tradition that honors their maternal heritage and adds a personal touch to their daughter’s full name.

Life as New Parents and Future Plans

After becoming parents, Pete Davidson and Elsie Hewitt have embraced their new roles while balancing their busy lives. A month after Scottie’s birth, Hewitt shared that they enjoyed their first night out as new parents, marking a memorable milestone.

Davidson expressed that fatherhood has helped him overcome his perfectionist and people-pleasing tendencies, while Hewitt revealed she has been re-falling in love with Pete during this transformative time.

Though Davidson does not maintain personal social media accounts, he hosts a weekly video podcast, The Pete Davidson Show, filmed in his garage and available to Netflix subscribers starting January 30. Fans may receive more insights into his journey into parenthood through this platform.

In addition to his new family life, Davidson is set to appear in the upcoming 2026 film How To Rob A Bank, scheduled for release on September 4.
