Keke Palmer has made it clear that she will not live with any romantic partner in the future, including if she gets married. Speaking on the Today show with hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones on February 2, the 32-year-old actress and singer shared her preferences for maintaining separate living spaces, emphasizing her need for independence while raising her 2-year-old son, Leodis, whom she shares with ex Darius Jackson.
Palmer discussed a growing dating culture trend where people openly discuss serious topics such as marriage, politics, and having children early in relationships. Reflecting on this, she stated,
“I think that’s actually good. Just get it out of the way, because sometimes you end up talking to somebody and y’all never talk about anything real, any of the things that actually show compatibility life-wise,”
Keke Palmer said.
Explaining Her Unique Living Arrangement Preferences
When interviewer Jenna Bush Hager engaged Palmer in a role-play scenario about a first date, asking if she wants more children, Palmer responded by highlighting her non-negotiable boundary about living arrangements.
“I could be open, but one thing I need you to know is I never want to live together. I like my alone time,”
she said. After being asked whether that was a genuine stance, Palmer affirmed,
“That’s real. I’m speaking as The Keke,”
making her preference clear.
Palmer referenced a sentiment expressed by Whoopi Goldberg, citing her line about personal space:
“I just feel like Whoopi Goldberg said it best once. She was like, ‘I don’t want nobody in my house.’ And I feel that. I’m serious — married, even.”
Living Close But Separate to Maintain Independence
When co-host Sheinelle Jones asked if Palmer would be willing to live nearby, Palmer explained her ideal arrangement as living close but in separate spaces. She suggested,
“Around the corner would be great. … You can be in the guest house, we can be on the same land, but I’m over there and he’s over there. At best, separate rooms.”
She also emphasized not wanting to share bathrooms:
“But think about how fun it would be to be like, ‘I’m going over to my man’s house.’ Over there, hi husband!”
Palmer added with laughter,
“It keeps it fun and exciting. I want to go sit on his couch.”
Current and Upcoming Projects
In addition to sharing her personal views, Palmer is promoting her new Peacock series, The ‘Burbs, which began airing on February 8. She is also slated to appear in the upcoming film I Love Boosters, released in theaters on May 22.
