Keke Palmer has clearly stated one important rule in her romantic relationships: she does not want to live with a partner, even if they are married. Sharing her thoughts during an appearance on Today, the actress explained how this preference supports her need for personal space and independence.
Why Palmer Prefers Separate Living Spaces
Palmer said,
“I could be open, but one thing I need you to know is I never want to live together. I like my alone time,”
and added with humor,
“That’s real. I’m speaking as The Keke.”
She emphasized that discussing life goals and boundaries early on is essential in maintaining a healthy relationship. She also referenced a memorable quote by Whoopi Goldberg, highlighting the value of personal space:
“She was like, ‘I don’t want nobody in my house.’ And I feel that.”
When asked if living nearby could be a compromise, Palmer agreed, saying,
“You can be in the guest house, we can be on the same land, but I’m over there, and he’s over there.”
This arrangement underlines her belief in keeping some physical distance to preserve individuality within the partnership.
Keeping Romance Alive While Living Separately
Palmer lightheartedly suggested that living apart could add some excitement to relationships by making visits feel special.
“But think about how fun it would be to be like, ‘I’m going over to my man’s house.’ Over there, hi husband!”
she joked. This perspective came as Palmer promoted her Peacock show The ‘Burbs, while also sharing how she balances her personal priorities, including raising her two-year-old son, Leodis.
Reflecting a Broader Cultural Shift
This stance mirrors a growing trend where many people—particularly creatives and parents managing busy careers—are reconsidering traditional cohabitation. Instead, they experiment with living arrangements that allow for mutual support but also maintain personal freedom. For Palmer, this model helps keep relationships fresh and enjoyable, suggesting there is value in redefining conventional partnership structures.
