Jake Gyllenhaal to Star in Netflix’s Thriller Kill Switch

Jake Gyllenhaal is set to headline the upcoming thriller Kill Switch, which Netflix has acquired the streaming rights to, according to Deadline. The screenplay is penned by Harrison Query, and while details about the plot remain scarce, sources suggest the story will fall somewhere between the styles of Michael Mann’s Collateral and Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario.

Strong Production Backing for Kill Switch

The project is produced by Matt Reeves through his 6th and Idaho banner, with Lynn Harris also involved as a producer. Gyllenhaal and Josh McLauglin’s Nine Stories, along with Scott Glassgold’s 12:01 Films, are also producing. Harrison Query will take on the role of executive producer as well, adding to the creative team’s depth.

Gyllenhaal’s Expanding Streaming Portfolio

Kill Switch adds to Jake Gyllenhaal’s growing work in streaming entertainment. He previously starred in the Apple TV series Presumed Innocent, which ranks as one of the platform’s most-watched dramas. The show has been renewed for a second season, with Gyllenhaal expected to return both as lead actor and executive producer.

The actor is also involved in several upcoming projects, including Road House 2 directed by Ilya Naishuller, The Bride! helmed by his sister Maggie Gyllenhaal, and the supernatural thriller Remain directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

Connection to Harrison Query’s Other Works

Netflix’s Kill Switch follows news that Amazon MGM Studios secured the rights to adapt Query’s short story Code Black, with Gyllenhaal attached to star and produce alongside 6th and Idaho, 12:01 Films, and Nine Stories. Last December, Netflix also acquired another Query script titled The Operator, featuring Mark Wahlberg as both actor and producer.

Through projects like Kill Switch and these collaborations, Gyllenhaal continues to deepen his involvement with innovative streaming content, working with notable producers and creators across the industry.
