Rebecca Ferguson revealed how becoming a mother at 23 with an older partner significantly influenced her outlook on life. The actress, known for her role in Mission: Impossible, spoke about her motherhood journey during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar published on February 4, ahead of her new film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.
An Early Start to Responsibility and Independence
Rebecca recounted her experience raising her son Isac with her first boyfriend, Ludwig Hallberg, who was 22 years her senior. She described starting work at 15 and being quickly pushed into adult responsibilities and independence.
“I was very young, but I started working at 15. I was thrown into the deep end of work, maturity and responsibility,” Rebecca shared.
She emphasized how vital it was for her to support herself from a young age without relying on anyone else.
“I needed to earn my own money. I don’t want people to care for me. I don’t want someone to cover for me. You just make it work.”
Balancing Motherhood and Career Demands
This sense of self-reliance has stayed with Rebecca, even when facing challenges during her career. She described filming stunts on the Mission: Impossible set in 2018 while pregnant with her daughter Saga.
“I would be fighting and then I’d run off and vom in a big bag somewhere, have a mint, then run back in,” she recalled.
Despite her busy schedule, Rebecca prioritizes her children and limits her work absences to no longer than three weeks at a time.
“That was my number one [priority],”
Rebecca said.
Rebecca’s Family Life Today
Rebecca shares daughter Saga with her husband Rory St. Clair Gainer. Her early experiences as a young mother alongside her career challenges have shaped how she manages both roles today, showing her commitment to her children while pursuing her acting career.
