Laurence Fishburne Joins The Exorcist Reboot Cast

Laurence Fishburne has officially joined the Laurence Fishburne Exorcist Cast as production prepares to begin next month in New York City. The new installment of The Exorcist franchise, which is being rebooted rather than continuing from previous sequels, promises a fresh take under the direction and writing of Mike Flanagan.

A Reimagined Exorcist with a Star-Studded Ensemble

The reboot features a prominent lineup including Scarlett Johansson, Diane Lane, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Jacobi Jupe, with Fishburne as the latest key addition. Mike Flanagan, known for his work on horror films such as Oculus, Hush, and Ouija: Origin of Evil, will direct and write the film while also serving as executive producer through his company, Red Room Pictures. This new version is a standalone project and not linked to the 2023 sequel, The Exorcist: Believer.

Jason Blum and Ryan Turek will act as producers and executive producers for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, the studio partnering with Morgan Creek and Universal on the film. Filming will commence in March in New York City, marking the start of a fresh chapter in the iconic horror series.

Director Mike Flanagan’s Vision for The Exorcist Revival

Mike Flanagan expressed both reverence and excitement for the project, declaring,

‘The Exorcist’ is one of the reasons I became a filmmaker, and it is an honor to have the chance to try something fresh, bold, and terrifying within its universe,

Flanagan stated.

Reuniting with my friends at Blumhouse, with whom I’ve made some of my favorite pieces of work, only makes this more exciting.

His familiarity with Blumhouse builds confidence for fans eager to see a new perspective on the franchise.

and added,

Anticipation and Expectations Surrounding the Reboot

Flanagan has garnered much admiration for his previous work, notably The Life of Chuck, and many are optimistic about what he can bring to the Exorcist franchise. The addition of experienced actors like Fishburne and Johansson raises expectations for this entry, potentially elevating the series to new heights. The production’s outset in New York City signals a significant reboot effort to reinvigorate a beloved horror legacy.

What Lies Ahead for The Exorcist Series

The Exorcist reboot is set to return to theaters on March 17, 2027. With a blend of a talented cast, an acclaimed director, and respected producers, this new chapter aims to renew interest in the series while delivering bold storytelling to longtime fans and new viewers alike. The involvement of Laurence Fishburne and the collaboration between Blumhouse, Morgan Creek, and Universal indicate a strong commitment to reviving the classic horror franchise with fresh energy and creative vision.
