Hailee Steinfeld Says No Plans to Return to Music Now

Hailee Steinfeld, the actress and singer known for her roles in films like Bumblebee and The Edge of Seventeen, has announced that she currently has no plans to return to music. Despite maintaining a successful dual career as a pop singer, Steinfeld revealed this decision during a recent Q&A for her Beau Society newsletter, addressing questions about her future music projects.

Background on Hailee Steinfeld’s Music Journey

Steinfeld’s music career began to gain traction following her appearance in the 2015 musical comedy Pitch Perfect 2. Soon after, she released her debut EP, Haiz, which reached number 57 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. She continued to build her discography with a second EP, Half Written Story, released in 2020, featuring popular singles such as Love Myself, At My Best, and Starving.

Her latest solo track, SunKissing, came out in 2023, and she also contributed to the soundtrack for the 2025 film Sinners, showcasing her ongoing involvement with music despite her current pause.

Steinfeld Reflects on Her Changing Relationship with Music

When asked whether she plans to make new music, Steinfeld stated candidly,

“While I have no plans to make music right at this exact moment, do I think about it? All the time,”

she shared.

“Music has always been a huge part of my life, and if it makes sense to get back in a studio, it’s an easy yes.”

However, the singer-actress admitted that her sense of creative fulfillment from music has diminished.

“But the music industry has changed quite a bit over the last few years,”

she said.

“I don’t feel as creatively fulfilled by music as much as I used to. I love the way Charli XCX writes about this.”

The Impact of Industry Changes on Artistic Expression

Steinfeld’s reference to Charli XCX highlights a broader conversation about the music industry’s evolving challenges. The British hitmaker’s 2024 album, Brat, explores the pressures of industry expectations and the unpredictable nature of pop fame. This reflection points to a shift in how artists like Steinfeld and Charli navigate their creativity amidst changing commercial and artistic landscapes.

As Steinfeld remains uncertain about her music future, her story underscores the complexities artists face in balancing passion with shifting industry dynamics. Fans may anticipate whether she will return to music when the timing and creative environment feel right.
