Aldis Hodge Says Alex Cross Is His New Superhero Role

Aldis Hodge stars as Alex Cross in the Prime Video series, portraying a homicide detective and forensic psychologist who navigates the dangers of Washington DC. Hodge shared that, despite the grounded nature of Cross’s world, the character shares traits with superheroes, as both confront villains and fight against oppression in their own ways.

The Root of Hodge’s Connection to Alex Cross

Growing up immersed in comic books and graphic novels, Hodge views superheroes as symbols of resistance against injustice. He explained that these figures represent creative ideologies developed as responses to repression. For Hodge, Alex Cross represents this same fight but operates within reality rather than fantasy.

“I grew up on graphic novels and comics. I love anime. I’m addicted to anime. Superheroes and comics were invented as symbolism for dealing with oppression in ways you couldn’t directly. You made yourself super. You created ideology around opposing what suppresses you. I think Alex Cross embodies that. Where I start with every character is their honesty. What do they want? Who are they? Where are they at? What are they going through? What are their desires? Their fears? Their vulnerabilities? Their strengths? That never changes. Every character’s journey is different, but I need to understand that honesty in order to portray them.”
