Mandy Moore and her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, have opened the doors to their restored Los Angeles home almost a year after the Eatonfire ravaged their neighborhood. The couple’s dedication to the Mandy Moore home restoration project follows the extensive damage caused by the January 2025 fire, which destroyed many homes across the area.
The former This Is Us star, 41, along with her 40-year-old musician husband, shared an intimate video tour and interview with Architectural Digest on February 11, showcasing their revitalized 1931 Spanish Colonial Revival house.
A Beloved Home’s Journey from Devastation to Renewal
Moore and Goldsmith purchased the vintage property in 2020 and had been chronicling the ongoing transformation process as they worked toward making it their perfect family home. With three young children—sons Gus, 4, and Ozzie, 3, and daughter Lou, 1—the couple invested years of effort into crafting a warm and functional space.
However, their progress was interrupted when the deadly Eaton fire struck Altadena, affecting their neighborhood and forcing significant destruction across the community. The event displaced over 80,000 people and destroyed upwards of 1,000 structures, including some parts of their home.
Immediate Aftermath and the Drive to Rebuild
Reflecting on the days following the fire, Goldsmith described the initial uncertainty about the state of their home. He shared,

“I came here the day, like a few hours after, the fire passed through this area,”
adding,
“The studio was on fire in the back, the garage was already burnt down. As the days went on, we realized our house made it.”

Though the main structure remained intact, the couple had to discard many items, including furniture, rugs, and clothes, ruined by the fire damage. They temporarily relocated to a rental property for nine months while undertaking the extensive restoration.
Community Spirit Fuels Determination to Stay
Moore emphasized the strong connection they feel to their Altadena community as a major reason for rebuilding. She explained,
“I think what initially lured us to Altadena is the spirit of the community here,”
and continued,
“Like overwhelmingly you just feel so proud to live here. And so proud to stake your claim here. Like we’re not leaving, we’re digging in deep. We’re rebuilding what we lost.”

The actress became emotional recalling a neighbor who also lost his home and expressed relief that their house survived. She said,
“We were… I don’t want to cry,
and went on to say,
But our sweet neighbor said that if anyone’s house made it, he was glad it was ours, because we had been working on it for so long. The grace that somebody who just lost their entire life would have for their neighbor is just beyond. I think that speaks to what this community is.”

Design Collaboration Brings the Vision to Life
Collaborating with designer Sarah Sherman Samuel and architect Emily Farnham, the family completed the months-long restoration and moved back into their dream home in September 2025. Moore described the refreshed interior as feeling,
“very intentionally softer and warmer and richer, and more colorful and playful,”
adding that the new space is less precious than before in the best way.
Goldsmith agreed, highlighting their desire for the house to age gracefully as a family home. He explained,
“We wanted this house to be more of a family home than our previous home. We knew we were coming into this one with children—we didn’t know how many at the time, but turns out it was three.”

Interior Spaces That Blend Comfort and Functionality
The living room retained much of its original layout but features new lounge chairs and sofa fabric after the fire. A standout favorite for the family is the cozy screening room, which Goldsmith refers to as his library. This space combines his collection of first-edition books with comfortable green lounge chairs, offering a spot for family movie nights and relaxation.
Moore also highlighted their children’s shared bedroom, especially the built-in bunks that thrilled her sons after the long displacement. She shared,
“The fires happened, and we were out of the house for nine months,”
continuing,
So when we moved back in, we had these incredible bunks built in. The boys love it. It made coming back to the house even more exciting for them.”

Outdoor Enhancements Preserve and Upgrade the Backyard
The original home did not include a pool, so the couple added one during the restoration, complete with a long, wraparound step and an outdoor shower. Fortunately, the backyard area sustained less damage, and Moore noted,
“Everything we lost in the fire was primarily back here,”
further explaining,
This part of the yard was primarily untouched, thank goodness. The pool, she remained intact.”
