Anne Hathaway recently expressed admiration for one of her lesser-known movies, calling it one of her favorites despite limited viewership. She shared on Instagram about her 2017 film Colossal, a unique kaiju-themed story, which has now become available on Netflix. Hathaway posted multiple behind-the-scenes photos, concluding her message with the film’s trailer, hoping the streaming release would bring new attention to the project.
Though Colossal did not attract a wide audience upon its original release, Hathaway hinted that the Netflix availability could help the film reach a broader fan base. She reflected fondly on the experience of making the movie, recalling the creative environment on set.
In 2015 while pregnant with our first baby, Adam and I went with our pups to Vancouver to make [Nacho Vigalondo’s] wonderfully insane kaiju movie Colossal co-starring a brilliant and pre-Ted Lasso Jason Sudekis,
Hathaway wrote. We all had a blast, she continued.
It is both one of my favorite movies I have ever been in and one of the best times I have ever had on set.
She also expressed that when a cast and crew enjoy working together, it elevates the entire production process, making the final product feel more rewarding.

Anne Hathaway Jokes About Colossal’s Initial Reception While Sharing Its Netflix Return
In her post, Hathaway maintained a lighthearted tone while commenting on the film’s modest box office presence. Despite its limited commercial success, she continued to endorse the movie warmly.
When it arrived in theatres in 2017, it shattered box office records and became the shining hope of all low-budget indies that if you stick to your guns, you can make it big and transcend it all,
she joked. Jk, no one saw it.
She then enthusiastically announced the film’s new home on Netflix.
BUT it just landed on Netflix!!
Hathaway added.
So if you have the inclination, maybe 2026 is finally Colossal’s year. It’s funny and strange and silly/smart and great (just my opinion… and 82% of critics on RT so…).
Hope you give it a go! Stay weird!
she concluded.
Fans Respond to Hathaway’s Appreciation of Colossal
Hathaway’s followers joined the conversation, sharing their own thoughts and support for the film. One fan humorously noted the small but dedicated audience it had.
Listen…some of us saw Colossal in 2017 and there were DOZENS of us!! Dozens!!
Another viewer, speaking from an indie filmmaker’s perspective, appreciated hearing that prominent actors also struggle to get similar projects recognized.
As an indie filmmaker it does comfort me to know that even the biggest stars have a hard time getting those indie films seen,
they wrote. A third follower expressed strong praise with the comment: Underrated af girl,
The renewed availability of Colossal on Netflix gives this quirky, imaginative film a chance to find a wider audience, offering an opportunity for viewers to experience one of Anne Hathaway’s favorite and most creatively fulfilling projects.
