At the Los Angeles premiere of her new Peacock series, The ‘Burbs, Keke Palmer opened up about how she manages the demands of a thriving career alongside parenting her 2-year-old son, Leodis Leo Andrellton. The actress, singer, and former TV host discussed the intentional choices she makes to balance both worlds effectively while maintaining her passion for her work and family.
The Challenges and Joys of Juggling Multiple Roles
During a conversation on February 5, Palmer humorously remarked,
“There actually are three of me,”
reflecting on the numerous responsibilities she handles daily. She went on to emphasize increased focus since becoming a mother, stating,
“I feel like after [having] my son I’ve become even more intentional with what I choose to do, how I choose to spare my time. I love everything that I do, but I think [I’m] always conscious to have a good team, to make sure that I can handle it all, and be able to organize it, ’cause it is a lot, but I do love it.”
This deliberate approach allows her to pursue her diverse projects while being present in her son’s life.
Parenting Insights Shaping Her Life and Work
Palmer shared how witnessing her son’s growth has profoundly influenced her worldview. She explained,
“The process of seeing him grow from being a little baby that didn’t speak to having words, opinions and a personality is incredible,”
and added,
“He’s teaching me most importantly, I think, just how to relax and how to live, you know what I mean?”
She also described the parenting experience as a mirror helping her recognize her own needs and growth, saying,
“Like when you see your kid, it really is a mirror to you with your own life, but you’re able to give them … what you need to give to yourself. So it’s been a real blessing.”
Her son remains central to her life, and she affirmed,
“My son is everything to me, you know?”
Connecting Motherhood to Her Role in The ‘Burbs
Playing the character Samira, a new mother navigating postpartum challenges, offered Palmer a personal and cathartic experience. She reflected,
“It was actually kind of cathartic, because, well, the things that Samira was going through, even with her relationship and how that was impacted by having a child, and then postpartum and how, you know, you’re trying to process things [while also being] so porous because you just [had] this human. I really related to a lot of that — and the horror behind it.”
This role, blending elements of comedy and horror, tells the story of a young couple moving back to the husband’s childhood home to uncover unsettling secrets.

Excitement About Joining a Project Linked to Tom Hanks
Palmer expressed enthusiasm about her involvement in this series, inspired in part by the original 1989 film of the same name starring Tom Hanks. She remarked,
“I’m a huge Tom Hanks fan, even though I was not that familiar with this film of his, the fact that I even got an opportunity to be considered for something like this was exciting … [and] I was excited to finally play a mom on TV after having been a mom.”
The show is now available for streaming on Peacock.
