Robert Pattinson Reveals Brutal Therapy Comment That Shocked Him

Robert Pattinson recently shared a striking memory from a therapy session where he was confronted with an unexpected question. During a conversation with co-star Zendaya for Interview Magazine, Pattinson reflected on his struggle with identity amid fame, revealing a therapy moment that caught him off guard. This discussion coincides with their collaboration in Kristoffer Borgli’s soon-to-be-released film, The Drama.

Balancing Fame and Personal Identity During Twilight Era

Pattinson described the conflicting feelings he experienced while starring in the Twilight series, where the movies’ success was met with significant cultural pushback. He explained that the overwhelming marketing campaign, combined with public reaction, made it challenging to separate his personal identity from that of his character.

He said,

“I didn’t want to get my personal identity caught up in that, so I tried to push forward my individuality a little, and that kind of stuck with me. It was also interesting getting famous off of playing a part—people thought I was that character in the beginning.”

When Zendaya acknowledged how odd that must have felt, Pattinson acknowledged the strangeness but noted the experience gave him an outlet to resist public perception. He admitted he never felt the need to protect an unchanging identity and was comfortable with the idea of evolving as a person.

Unexpected Question in Therapy

In the interview, Pattinson recounted a stark moment in therapy when the therapist questioned if he was under the influence of drugs because of how he expressed himself. He recalled,

“I went to therapy once and the therapist asked me if I was on drugs because they couldn’t understand what I was talking about. I was like, ‘I’m trying my best.’”

Reflection on Body Odor and Personal Changes

Separately, Pattinson recently revisited remarks he made in 2020 about his distinctive body odor. He previously told Allure that people often said he smelled like a crayon, a scent described as waxy and earthy. He humorously remarked,

“Lots of people tell me I smell like a crayon,”

and confirmed, “Yes! Like I’m embalmed.”

In an interview with GQ, Pattinson explained that his body chemistry has since changed, noting he no longer has the waxy smell he once did. He shared,

“My body chemistry has changed. It’s very strange. But I 100% used to smell exactly like a crayon.”

He further theorized that people become less scented with age, admitting he no longer notices his odor but once had a very distinct and intense smell.

“Before that, it was quite a kind of vicious, vicious scent. And then something, I think, when it became crayon-y, it was like something died,”

he revealed.

The Ongoing Journey of Self-Understanding Amid Fame

Robert Pattinson’s reflections highlight the complex challenges of personal identity and public perception, especially for actors who rise to fame playing iconic roles. His ability to confront these pressures, including difficult moments in therapy, reveals a nuanced struggle many face behind the scenes.

As he continues working on projects like The Drama alongside Zendaya, Pattinson’s openness about insecurity, change, and self-acceptance may offer insight into the emotional toll of celebrity life and the personal growth it demands.
