At just 12 years old, Ke Huy Quan experienced a defining moment on the set of Harrison Ford Indiana Jones’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, where the star’s kindness left a lasting impact. This encounter happened during filming in the mid-1980s and gave Quan reassurance during a frightening scene that shaped his early career.
A Moment of Comfort Amid Filming Challenges
Ke Huy Quan, who played the role of Short Round in Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster, recalled how intimidating the experience was for such a young actor entering Hollywood’s major film industry. He specifically remembered the intense mine chase scene, which overwhelmed him with fear. Opening up to Entertainment Weekly in 2025, Quan shared the significance of a simple yet powerful gesture from Harrison Ford on set.
“When it came time to shoot that scene, I was so scared. I cried. And I remember Harrison Ford kneeling down to me and asking how I was doing. He said, and I will never forget, ‘Ke, I want you to remember that I will never hurt you.’ When he said that, oh my god, I loved him even more. There was Indiana Jones telling me he would take care of me.”

The excitement extended beyond filming into the world premiere, where young Quan was mesmerized by the film’s sounds and effects as he watched on the big screen.
“I remember watching it for the first time at the premiere, and experiencing the sound effects and music for the first time. I was blown away by all of it. I was only 13 years old at the time, and it made me fall in love with action cinema.”

Since then, Quan has participated in prominent projects, including season two of Loki, voice work for Kung Fu Panda 4, and starring in the 2025 action-comedy Back to Business alongside Bob Odenkirk.

Earlier, Quan appeared in The Electric State with Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown, a science fiction film directed by the Russo brothers. His upcoming work includes voice acting in the animated movie The Legend of Aang – The Last Airbender, featuring fellow stars Dave Bautista and Steven Yeun.
