Ryan Coogler’s X-Files Reboot Begins Casting for New Season

Director Ryan Coogler, known for his work on Sinners and Black Panther, has started casting for the upcoming Ryan Coogler X-Files reboot. The reboot aims to continue the original series’ blend of standalone supernatural investigations and a larger, ongoing conspiracy narrative.

Plans for the New X-Files Series

Coogler shared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that the reboot will preserve the signature format of the original X-Files show by featuring both episodic “monster of the week” stories and a continuous, complex conspiracy thread. This combination has long been essential to the series’ identity.

“We intend on having both monsters of the week and also the overarching conspiracy […] it wouldn’t be X-Files if we didn’t do both. That’s what I’m doing now. Black Panther 3 comes after that. I’m hyped, bro.” – Ryan Coogler, Director

When asked about the involvement of original stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, Coogler expressed admiration but declined to confirm their participation.

“I’m a big fan of Gillian’s, I’m a big fan of David’s. That’s all I can say.” – Ryan Coogler, Director

Legacy and Expectations for the Revival

The original X-Files centered on FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, whose contrasting beliefs—one a believer in the paranormal, the other a skeptic—drove investigations into unexplained phenomena while facing secretive adversaries. The show was known for its mix of memorable standalone episodes like “Home” alongside a deeper alien-invasion mythology that linked the two feature films.

Fans of the franchise are watching closely as this new reboot begins to take shape under Coogler’s direction, with anticipation about how the story will evolve and who will join the cast. Updates on casting and production are expected to follow in the coming months.
