Jacob Elordi Surges as Top Favourite to Be Next James Bond

Jacob Elordi has surged ahead as the favourite to succeed Daniel Craig as the next James Bond, following the recent release of Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel, Wuthering Heights. The 28-year-old Australian actor’s rising popularity amid the film’s success has significantly boosted his odds to land the iconic role.

Once considered an outsider with 14/1 odds to become Bond just last week, Elordi now leads the race with shortened odds of 5/4. This marks a considerable shift, dethroning English actor Callum Turner, who has seen his chances fade from 7/10 to 6/4 after Elordi’s rise. The increased enthusiasm around Jacob Elordi James Bond casting has captured widespread attention among fans and punters alike.

“There’s been a big shake up in the search for the next James Bond actor in the past 24 hours, with Jacob Elordi our new outright favourite.”

He added that Elordi’s odds slid dramatically from 14/1 to 4/1 last week, and have continued to fall to 5/4 this week, overtaking previous market leader Callum Turner. Phelps also noted that Margot Robbie’s name has gained momentum as a potential next Bond girl, now considered at 6/1 odds.

Chris Rogers, a representative from Oddschecker, remarked on the shift in the betting market, saying,

“Callum Turner had led the next James Bond betting market for several weeks, but a new name has surged to the top.”

He confirmed Elordi’s odds now stand at 5/4, cut from 6/1, placing him ahead of Turner at 6/4. Rogers observed that Elordi has received strong backing, with 56 percent of bets placed on him within the last 12 hours.

“Callum Turner continues to be a strong contender and was the second most backed candidate behind Elordi with 20% of the betting,”

Rogers added.

Box Office Success Boosting Elordi’s Profile

The momentum behind Jacob Elordi’s James Bond prospects is partly fueled by the commercial triumph of Wuthering Heights. The film, which features Elordi as Heathcliff opposite Margot Robbie’s Catherine, has garnered widespread attention since its release. It earned an impressive US$76.8 million (£56 million) worldwide on its opening weekend, marking the largest opening of the year so far.

In North America alone, it made US$34.8 million in its first three days, with expectations to reach around US$40 million by the end of the Presidents Day holiday. Remarkably, 76 percent of the opening weekend’s ticket buyers were women, according to PostTrak polling. The production, backed by Warner Bros. and MRC, had a reported budget of US$80 million excluding marketing costs.

The film still has major release dates ahead in Japan and Vietnam on February 27, followed by China on March 13, promising further box office growth and continued exposure for Elordi.

Implications of Elordi’s Favouritism in the Bond Casting

The rapid shift in betting dynamics signals a new chapter in the long-running search for a fresh James Bond following Daniel Craig’s tenure. Elordi’s rise suggests that producers and audiences may be seeking a younger, dynamic contender who combines emerging star power with recent critical success.

This change also adds uncertainty and excitement for fans and industry watchers, as the casting debate intensifies. With other strong candidates like Callum Turner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Theo James still in contention, the selection process is far from finalized. Meanwhile, the increasing buzz around Margot Robbie as a prospective Bond girl adds another layer of anticipation to the franchise’s future direction.
