Paul Mescal Pauses Beatles Biopic for Rare Night Out With Girlfriend

Actor Paul Mescal stepped away temporarily from playing Paul McCartney in the highly anticipated Paul Mescal Beatles biopic to attend a special screening of a Beatles documentary on Thursday at London’s Ham Yard Hotel. He was accompanied by his girlfriend, singer Gracie Abrams, making a rare public appearance together at the event.

The documentary, highlighting McCartney’s life after The Beatles’ breakup, is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on February 27. McCartney himself was also present at the screening and was surrounded by enthusiastic fans and photographers as he departed.

Notable Attendees at the Beatles Documentary Screening

Alongside Mescal and Abrams, Cruz Beckham attended the screening with his girlfriend Jackie Apostel, dressed casually in a navy jacket and jeans. Sharon Osbourne also made an appearance, choosing an all-black outfit consisting of a knee-length coat, trousers, and handbag. These guests added to the event’s prominence and underscored the cultural impact of The Beatles and the new documentary’s significance.

Paul Mescal’s Role and Musical Preparation for the Beatles Biopic

Mescal is undertaking the role of Paul McCartney in the upcoming four-part Beatles film, joining Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan portraying Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. Demonstrating dedication to authenticity, Mescal will record his own vocals for the part—a practice also followed by actors like Taron Egerton in “Rocketman,” who performed Elton John’s songs themselves.

In an interview with British GQ, Mescal shared that embodying McCartney has deepened his appreciation for music, revealing,

“I’ve learned so much. It’s really inspired a love.”

He also disclosed he is now writing his own music, explaining,

“I’ve always loved music, but getting to play one of the great songwriters and great frontmen has really lit a fire in terms of personally writing music and engaging and hearing music in a different way.”

Paul Mescal’s Changing Priorities Amid Increasing Fame

As Mescal approaches 30, he has reflected on his evolving ambitions and the balance between career and personal life. The actor has suggested he might step back from the public eye until the Beatles biopic debuts in cinemas in 2028, focusing more on loved ones and slowing down his professional pace.

He described this shift by telling British GQ,

“I really enjoyed the rhythm I’ve been working at. I think that process began when I was 23 and I’m now turning 30.”

Mescal added,

“I can feel myself wanting to slow down a bit more and certain priorities come in where I spend my time, whether that’s with my family or with my partner or with friends.”

Expanding on his relationship with Gracie Abrams, which they have kept mostly private since beginning in 2024, Mescal confessed,

“I’ve never had a desire to really spend my time anywhere else other than work up until this point… And now I do have a desire to not spend my time necessarily in a rehearsal room or on set.”

Significance of the Upcoming Beatles Biopic and Mescal’s Impact

The Beatles biopic promises to be a major cinematic event, tracing the lives and legacies of the four legendary musicians through a four-part narrative. Paul Mescal’s portrayal of McCartney, paired with his commitment to performing vocally, sets high expectations for authenticity and emotional depth. His decision to slow down off-screen and prioritize personal connections reflects a thoughtful approach amid rising fame, which could shape his career trajectory moving forward.

With the documentary debut on Amazon Prime offering an intimate glimpse into McCartney’s post-Beatles journey, and the film’s scheduled theatrical release in 2028, fans and filmgoers alike anticipate a comprehensive exploration of The Beatles’ enduring influence on music history.
