IFC Films has unveiled the trailer for Over Your Dead Body, a dark comedy featuring Jason Segel in a violent yet quirky new story. Directed by Jorma Taccone, known for MacGruber and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, the film will premiere later this year at SXSW, where it is expected to draw attention for its unique tone and talented ensemble cast.
An Intriguing Dark Comedy with a Star-Studded Cast
Over Your Dead Body brings together an impressive group of actors including Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, Timothy Olyphant, Juliette Lewis, Paul Guilfoyle, and former mixed martial artist Keith Jardine. The movie is produced by 87North and XYZ, with a production team featuring Kelly McCormick, Lee Kim, and Guy Danella. Taccone directs while also serving as an executive producer alongside Tommy Wirkola, the original film’s director, and producers Jørgen Storm Rosenberg and Kjetil Omberg from 74 Entertainment. Actress Karen Gillan is also involved as a co-producer, adding another layer of creative input.
Remaking a Norwegian Thriller with a New Twist
This new adaptation is based on the 2021 Norwegian thriller I Onde Dager by Tommy Wirkola, originally starring Noomi Rapace and Aksel Hennie. The screenplay, initially written by Wirkola, John Niven, and Nick Ball, was expanded and reworked by Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney. The original story revolves around a couple who are eager to end their marriage by killing one another in a remote cabin, only to face an even deadlier menace. The remake maintains the central premise but focuses on a dysfunctional couple, played by Segel and Weaving, who go to a cabin under the guise of reconnecting, while secretly plotting to kill each other. This blend of dark humor and suspense promises an unpredictable ride.
